I'm so sorry about your loss. It's always tough losing a constant companion.

I work with two local rescue groups (one was recently in the news for rescuing 24 sick cats from a Leominster hoarder) and I will check. Kitten season is already starting, and people are abandoning their pets like mad. It's very sad. I should be able to let you know in a day or so, just depends on when I hear back.

Darbella, it seems to be the month for losses. I lost my "pet" crossbeak a week ago, and last night my very first chicken went missing. I hope she's just gone broody. She was spending a lot of time in the hayloft, and the roosters wouldn't leave her alone. Times like these, I feel that no matter how much I learn, I still feel like I know nothing.

I know, I have them in a secured coop, heat lamp so they dont get too cold, 8ft high chain link with netting on top, and then to have a loss...it is so puzzling! I am thinking of putting a baby monitor in there so I can here if there is a ruckus and maybe intervene a potential horror show. I also saw the rescue mentioned from the cat horder and there were bengals and also abby's in the batch. It said it would be quite a while before they were put up for adoption because they have to win custody of them firs, and it wasnt a neglect case so that takes longewr, but the horder may even get them back.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Mya finally had her babies today. After staying up with her all night we brought her to the vet at 4.00 am. She pused all night and no babies so she had an exray. Everything was fine so she had two at the vet office before he sent her home with two shots of oxytocin for later use just in case. Needless to say she needed both.
She has 2 red/wh males, 2 red/wh females and 1 black/white male. Mom and babies are doing very well,

Hey! Good news, I think. I found my hen this morning. I can't tell if she's under the weather, though, because she won't come out from underneath the stair landing in the barn. Can't say I blame her- those idiot roosters are relentless. I pushed some food under there, and as much hay as would fit on one side. Crossing my fingers...
I've thought about webcams, because I just can't figure out how the chickens or the horses do the damage to the barn and to eachother sometimes. For example: "How the heck did the horse get a cut on the inside of his thigh???"

Geez, there must've been more than one hoarder! MAAS didn't rescue any Abyssinians or Bengals, and he definitely signed over the cats, and it was definite neglect. Many of them are too sick even for surgery. Even the rescuers had to get treated for ammonia burns it was so bad.

I did hear that Metrowest Humane Society may have an Abyssinian. MAAS recommended checking the specific breed rescues. If you do get one from a breeder, though, MAKE SURE you go pick it up from them at the place where they breed. If they try to talk you out of it, you do not want the cat because it is almost a sure sign they have something to hide, like horrible conditions. I've learned some sickening things these past years, helping to rescue cats and also getting my vet tech degree.
Okay, I'm off my soap box. Thanks.

This one was in NH, I am assuming Rochester area because I think that is the rescue organization that has them and they were all pure bengals and abbys. They said they were in good health and clean, but something about the amount of animals. One thing I would like to add to what you said is not all breeders that dont allow you to come to their facility are hiding something. First of all, any reputable breeder will not even show or allow to be shown an animal that has not had its forst set of shots. I dont care what people say, there are only certain levels of cholostrum that protect against the diseases that people can bring in to new pups or kittens. Even visitors to the home or cattery/kennel can bring stuff in on their clothing and shoes. One thing I tell people to remember is this, when the majority of people are puppy or kitten shopping, they are not only looking at what you have to offer. You need to think of where they just came from before coming to your place. And dont think for a minute they did not visit the pet shop in the local mall! When I was breeding ans showing, no one got near my puppies till they were 7 weeks old and the 6 week puppy shot was in their system for at least a week, and at that, they could not handle the puppy, I held it for them to see and then put it in the playpen for them to observe. I did not care if it cost me the sale, there would be another buyer and to me it was worht missing a sale than having to treat a sick puppy or at worst, burry one and be out the money all togetther.
