Chickenstock & swaps in Ma chat thread

I know this is last minute, but if anyone sees this and can help me out, please let me know. I need a lavender colored bantam hen who is currently laying for a quick color experiment. Not particular about the breed, just the color, gender and laying status. I will be leaving my house early to run some errands before the swap, so will not be checking my messages after 7AM Saturday. I hope to be at the swap by 10AM, hopefully closer to 9:30. Just look for me wearing a tee shirt with the images in my avatar (and a chicken costume hood, if I'm not too hot and sweaty!). Thanks!

Hi everyone, I obviously did not make the swap. I had to pick up a rabbit hutch in Merrimack I bought 3 days ago and could not fit into my car, so had to go wit the truck this morning with Wayne. I am definitely coming down with a stomache bug I think. I also stopped by the TSC in Merrimack and they are having a huge clearance sale on bags of feed (no chicken) for 1/2 price because they are coming up to expire in a month or even a little longer. 50lb bags of horse feed were 4.00 and it was all brands, and for most animals, rabbits, horsed, goats, etc...but I guess chicken feed doesnt sit around long enought to expire! LOL feed were 4.00

The swap was going on and there were a whopping total of 4 vendors, too bad they are not making it anymore. they used to be a good thing here in NH. At least the Merrimack and Milford ones were.

I am so excited! My white bob white that has been sitting on what I thought were unfertilized eggs. I candled the eggs and there are little ones inside. Which means I HAVE A TRIO!

14. Not sure when they are due to hatch, she had sat on eggs before and nothing. Thought I had 3 females. Was looking everywhere for either a male or eggs. Got some tody to put under her. When we took the ones out from under her to switch , we candled them . A good habit I guess. Couldn't believe they were developing. Maybe he was too young before. All 3 look identical.

Um, does anyone know who it was that I bought the 2 Barred rocks and 2 reds from? We traded 3 of those for the Orpington pair? Just wanted to get in touch with them, thanks!

This is a little off topic (okay it's a lot off topic

), but this Sunday Oct. 16 is the fundraiser auction for the Essex Aggie FFA kids. Rain or shine in the poultry barn at the Topsfield Fairgrounds, Rt. 1 (Boston St.) in Topsfield, Mass. 12 noon until the last "barnyard" rooster and "one-litter-too-many" bunny is sold.

If you have birds to sell (chickens, pheasants, guineas, peafowl, turkeys, gamebirds), they have to be bloodtested and you have to have your "clean flock" certificate or card to show. Waterfowl, pigeons-doves and cagebirds are exempt from bloodtests but should of course be in good health. Rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals and livestock are also okay as long as they are crated or caged properly. All birds and animals should be securely caged or boxed with good ventilation and some bedding, maybe some fruit and veggies and feed to nibble on to stay fed and hydrated.
You can also sell small farm/poultry equipment, crafts, homemade baked goods, good-quality garden/house plants, etc. at the auction. Nesting boxes sold like hotcakes at past auctions, so if you have any to get rid of, if they're in good condition and clean that would be a great place to unload them.

The FFA kids get 25% of the sale $. It goes toward their attendence at the annual FFA convention. They're great kids and it's a great cause to support. You can also donate birds and items so the FFA kids get all of the proceeds of the sale.

P.S. If you're going to bid on stuff, you need to go to the table up front and get a bidding number to hold up for identification while bidding. If you're going to sell, get there between 11am and 11:45am so you can fill out the form and show your certificate (if needed), and the kids can put your items with the rest of the auction goods.

Any time after 9a.m. and before noon. I have found that if you get there by 11:00am or even 11:30 it's fine because there's still plenty of time before the auction. I once got there at five minutes to 12 and it was a zoo! So, the earlier the better. Definitely by 11:45. The auction starts at noon, and in past years they've stuck pretty tight to schedule!
