Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

If a dog has a muzzle I generally assume that that's a person being responsible with their dog, so I hold up my end of the bargain and take it as a 'no pet' signal.
I'm probably in the minority, but I just don't pet other people's dogs, period. I would not handle other people's children, nor would I give other people's children commands or call them to me. People do all these things to other people's dogs and it just seems odd to me that they do that. It just seems invasive to me. Why should my dog go to you? Why should she obey you if you say Come or Sit? She doesn't know you. And why should you think it is okay for you to touch her? We teach our children to beware of strangers, yet we expect people's dogs to be totally accepting about strangers, which is absolutely contrary to their nature. You probably won't get bit, but it does make the dog uncomfortable.

well.

deacon lunged for the first time in a long while.

gave me rug burn on my arms, I almost let go of the leash. I wasn't expecting that.

we where walking past a busy road, and i keep him close bc he tries to walk into the road every.time... I think the tension on the leash triggered him and he was lunging and growling, hackles raised

I picked him up and left. I would of worked on it, but i am so scared of the dobermann on the other side of the 4 foot chain link fence jumping over. I know it can if it tried.

well brb while i cry

What equipment do you have on him? What kind of collar, how long of leash? Did he lunge at the other dog? Are you keeping tension on the leash to control him? Are you okay?

I don't pet them unless:
A) the dog ran up to me and is clearly friendly, smiley, tail wagging, etc
B) I've asked permission to pet the dog and both dog and person seem comfortable with it

People do that? That's weird. I never give them commands, just pet them

Prong collar and a 4 foot leash. we where walking, doing great. We've walked past that dog lots of times. I was keeping tension to keep him close, because he likes to wader down onto the rode, I don't think he likes walking on the slanted ground. I wasn't thinking, and I wasn't trying to keep him from the dog, I was trying to keep him from the road. When i walk past triggers I try and keep the loosest leash possible.

I'm frusterated and sad, and my arm really really hurts.

Hmm. And what breed is she? That does make me wonder about her front legs.
Labradoodle. When she falls down, it's usually because she tripped over her own feet or the ball *gasp* rolled down the hill instead of continuing going up, so she had to make a sharp turn. I'm sure that her front legs are fine.
