Chicks and cedar

Did I imagine it or did I read that cedar is not a good choice of bedding for chicks?

Cedar has volital gases that can cause resp problems. Esp in brooders. Jean

Hi,

You might want to do a search on here for "cedar shavings". There was a long and lengthy discussion on the topic about 2-3 months ago.

Personally, I've used cedar with pine shavings in about a 80/20 mix (80% pine, 20% cedar) with all my birds including chicks and never had a problem.
