Chick's and their 1st dust bath

My chicks are about 3 weeks old now and I gave them sand but they don’t bathe in it, they only seem to eat it (as I’ve noticed their poo is very sandy). Should I just try a different medium (dirt, ash, etc) or keep them with the sand?

Try plain old dirt. Were they getting any grit at all? If not, that could explain the sand eating.

They do have grit, idk why they preferred the sand. I’ll try the dirt to see how they do with that.
