See video link below to hear the rattling noise after she chirps.

I have 11 2.5 week old chicks in a box with heating lamp in my garage and yesterday I noticed that they all have started making this rattling noise when they chirp (sounds like fluid in their throat or nasal path).

They otherwise act fine, look fine, are active and eating/drinking a lot. They haven’t been in close contact with other chickens yet and haven’t been outdoors at all.

What could be causing this? And is this worrisome? Should I treat it or just leave them be since they otherwise act fine? 😳

See video, the rattling noise is right after she chirps.

@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock @azygous anyone else who can help? I don’t know if I should treat or let it be but all of them make this noise when chirping. They act fine though. Am I overreacting? Are chicks supposed to have this rattling when chirping?

I don't hear it either.
Do you hear the rattle if you aren't holding her?

Any coughing/sneezing?
How's the ventilation in your garage, any fumes in there?
What's the brooder like, you mention a box - you got photos?

No other symptoms. You hear it, you just aren’t recognizing it coming from the chick because of all the other background noises. Its distinct & sounds like static rattling right after the chick chirps. Happens when/right after chirp.
I can get some photos. No fumes except maybe CO2 when I drive in but I usually turn car off immediately & only use that car every other day or so. The garage has a insulated door & 2 closed windows so no ventilation but I keep it open half of the day most days. These chicks are almost 3 weeks old.

No I cannot hear it unless I am holding the chick and the chick gets worked up chirping. I can feel the rattling too like wetness from nose or throat of the chick causing a vibrating rattle when they chirp. And it doesn’t rattle every single time the chick chirps.

As long as they are active eating and drinking, I would not worry. If you hear any sneezing, or see bubbles/foam in an eye, or eyelid swelling, then it might be significant. If you bring in chicks or hatching eggs from other people, there always can be a risk of getting a respiratory disease. But normally you would see more of the symptoms I listed. Sick birds are sick-looking.

Possibly pressing on the crop or air sacs if you only are hearing and feeling it after the chick is being held and gets worked up.
Try holding her differently.

You want to ensure there's fresh air coming in, so it's good the door is opened, but you may want to consider a window open at night.
