Chicks arriving in 2 weeks! (Update: Finally here!)

At least in my neck of the woods, about 2hrs away from you, chickenmomma, my post office didn't bat an eye when I told them I was expecting chicks in the mail. We both live in a relatively rural area and your post office probably has done this before. I'll bet they call you when the trucks come in. In Walla Walla, I was told I'd get a call around 5:30 a.m. Good luck!

I did call my PO and they were not surprised a bit. The guy made me feel like I was a weirdo calling to tell them I had chicks coming. He was like "Yeah... We'll call you as soon as their in." :p I didn't mind.

Ha! That's hilarious, I got the same response at my post office. The lady seemed bemused by my questions and ended up asking me about the breeds I wad getting, "ooh those are my favorites" (easter egger). Gosh I love small towns. Best of luck to you! I'm stoked.

Silver Lace Orpingtons, Gold Lace Orpingtons, lavender Cuckoos, Chocolate Cuckoos, Red Cuckoos. Have any?
wow! honestly, I didn't know laced orpingtons existed until now and they're so pretty!!!! i know wyandottes are pretty popular. and no, i don't have any of these! chocolate cuckoos are really pretty too! Even if any hatchery had them it would be very expensive!

Quote: Gorgeous birds! I was bummed I didn't get anything laced. Everything was pretty picked over by the time I got my butt in gear and sent my order. My little girls that are coming are quite plain. My one criteria was no white hens. I got tired of seeing my girl's back muddy from the rooster. I do still have an old, old white hen that I cant seem to part with and her niece, a creamy white young hen.

Oh you guys... I have been checking the weather along my babies route and it is SO cold! I'm getting worried. And the brooder box seems a little bit better with the blanket on top. Not awesome, but better. I'm putting up another light tomorrow (after the football game of course!) and I'm REALLY hoping that does the trick. I think the fact that the barn is not insulated is really making it hard to keep heat in the brooder.

oh I know, I keep checking the weather. They've been in transit from Des Moines since 12:20 AM yesterday. That worries me so much. I'm cleaning out my brooder, but it is cold in that bedroom so I need to check the temps again. I have my growing lights right on top of the brooder so the plants can absorb all the heat. =D
Its so windy and cold here =(

and, I kind of ordered a bunch of buff orpington and white rocks. -.- so, white and buff? lol even their roos are the same color. I'm gonna have to mix some in. I need color lol didn't really think about it until now. I would love a wyandotte! maybe I can get some at the tractor supply or farmer's co-op =D

Yikes, mine ship today from Missouri, where it is currently 17 degrees. I just HAD to choose the earliest hatch/ship date! I hope I haven't doomed the little peeps. There's only 6 in the box. Even with a heat pack and double boxed I don't know if that's going to be good enough. If your chicks come today Chicken momma and Kadu, please let us know if everyone arrives safely!

They all survived! =D Just got back from the post office, and they are chirping away!

At the post office.

No losses as of yet. I'm surprised, its snowing outside lol

WashingtonWino, with a heat pack, yours should be okay. =D Good Luck!
