I ordered 6 silkies from my pet chicken and they are coming in tomorrow!!!! What should I expect from getting chicks shipped in? Should I expect one to be dead? I am nervous about them getting shipped in. I hope they are okay when they arrive!!! I am so nervous they will all be dead

MPC will not ship roosters if you did not order any with your order. They ship using heating packs so I don't think they pack with any "packing peanuts" and if they do they say they only pack with the sex/breed you have already ordered.

1) Make sure you contact the post office to call you when they arrive in the morning. Usually about 7-7:30 am. That way, the chicks are not hanging out in a box for too long.

2) Next, when you get them home, get a small disk of slightly warm water(not super cold)and dip their beaks into it so they can get a drink. Hopefully you have a box or something to put them in. Next give 'em some food (chicken starter).

3) Watch 'em! Have fun!

PS Also provide some heat. Heat lamp with red heat bulb at 90 degrees, NO HOTTER. Monitor.

If you have a difficulty finding or using a red bulb or heat lamp just clip on a regular 100 watt light bulb this will work just fine the point is to make sure the temperature is 90 degrees and you can reduce the heat by 5 degrees a week by moving the heat lamp- bulb farther away if it is too hot make sure the chicks have plenty of room they will find a spot that is comfortable as long as they have space to get away from the heat I usually hang the bulb 10-12 inches away from the chicks and place a thermometer for a few minutes on the bottom under the bulb to check the temp. then it is usually ready.
