Will never go back to a chicken waterer again! No more cleaning shavings/poo from the waterer! Woohoo!
We stuck the rabbit waterer in their cage, and I made a few of the dip their beaks up so they would see there was water in there. About two days later, and they're all drinking out of it. Right now we've taken one of their two chick waterers out, and we'll eventually phase out the other as well. They seem to prefer the rabbit waterer anyway. I think they don't get as much water per sip, but they never have dirty water, and there is much less water wasted from us having to dump them out to clean them all the time. We were cleaning the little chick waterers out five or six times a day, and still felt bad! Argh! This is so much better!
We decided to do this because we wanted to have an automatic water system plugged into these rabbit waterers, and we wanted to make sure our chooks would drink from them first, so decided to start now when they're young (two weeks). They don't really push on the metal ball, instead they just drink the drop that is always hanging there. Every once in a while one will jiggle/peck the ball once to get some more fluids flowing, it's so cute
