Chicks dying, they were shipped today

You need Poultry Nutri-Drench. Can get it at Tractor Supply. Top quality emergency nutritional spplement. Excellent for travel stress. Doesn't need digesting so great for chilled animals. Goes straight into the bloodstream. Concentrated, The smallest bottle is all you need. Less than 10.00 . Put in water the 1st 2 weeks of life. Give each chick just one drop on arrival. I've used it on birds and collies (Pet Nutri-Drops) for years.
See their webpage and testimonal page. http://www.bovidr.com/ http://www.bovidr.com/poultry.html
The science techs at Bovidr are very knowledgeable and helpful.

I'm so glad I saw this post. My chicks are coming next month from Meyers and I will be prepared. Hoping it will be a short trip since they are in Ohio and I'm in eastern PA.
Ordering my Nutri-Drench now!! Thank you so much Karen.

it has warmed up a bit since i got them. it was in the low teens at night here. 20s in the day time. when they got here.

I am so sorry for all of your losses

I am sorry for the losses, too. I never get baby chicks between October and March, because it's too cold to ship them overnight. They sit in cargo holds, or warehouses with no heat until they get to you. I don't take the risk, I also struggle to keep my brooder warm enough at night, even with proper heat lamps. I never hatch my own chicks, or order chicks in the winter, due to loss.

I had been debating on ordering some of the Bantam Special from Ideal a couple weeks ago, but decided at the last minute to pass. It is just too cold right now

Sorry you all lost chicks, but I have to say, I've ordered from MM and my chicks arrived in great condition. My order came in April though. None of the chicks required Nutri-Drench or any special treatment. I put a little sugar in their water, filled the feeder full of chick feed and made sure the temperature was correct. What gets me though is when I ordered from MM (2 years ago I think), my chicks were shipped out on Monday and I received them on Wednesday. IMO, that Sunday layover at the post office probably doomed them. I ordered from Ideal last year bc their prices were cheaper and the chicks all arrived fine then too (and they came in chilly Feb). It may just be the time of year, and their not so smart change in shipping dates. Better luck next time :/

Sorry to hear about your losses. I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping mine will survive. I'm supposed to get mine Monday from MM. It will be in the early forties in Iowa and in the fifties here in Ohio. I'm new to mail ordering. Those who have picked them up from postal hubs, how did you go about that? I'm going to buy some nutri-drench from tsc after reading this as I'd like to be prepared.

Maybe order locally this time of year? Perhaps you could even drive and pick them up?
Best,
Karen

I also got 15 polish last week (all died) and then 15 more replacements this weekend (10 died). I talked to McMurray and they said that the Polish are very sensitive to temperature and this was not the best time of year to be shipped. Their customer service was incredible in helping me although I would have like to have the info about the difficulty with Polish at this time of year as I would have waited until later if I had known. My rainbow layers came through just fine.

I ordered from Meyer Hatchery on Monday & got my order this morning. I ordered 100 meat roosters for a friend, 20 chickens for my self, & the hatchery sent 4 free chicks. I got to the post office & 20 of the meat chickens had died! There had to of been something wrong with one side of the box bc thats where all of my doa was. It must of been too hot or too cold, idk. I called the hatchery & they said call them Friday & tell them if I have any more deaths & they'll refund my money. All my chicks were alive, but one of my Buff Orpingtons died shortly after I put them in the brooder. Idk why tho. Other than that I've had a good rep with Meyer Hatchery & my chicks now are running around, eating & drinking!
