The air sac was at the rounded end but I put my eggs in the turner rounded end up. so I'm calling that the top. Is that good or bad to have air sac in the rounded end facing up?

Yeppers that would be good

Hello hatchers!

I had four chicks in the Bator this morning! Two light Sussex, a SLW and an EE. Way cute. Going shopping today to look for gifts for DH, it is rough . He even admits if he wants something he just buys it:p Oh and hatching eggs are out as a gift idea. But I did catch him checking out the quail the other day:-D

Thanks all those who helped with my candling questions. I'm feeling much better now. This first time is agonizing especially with eggs I can't see into.

Now anyone want to tell me what they think about a day 16 lockdown. Someone on another thread mentioned that they felt it was better that way?

If you stop turning the eggs at day 16 it won't be an issue but I'd be cautious of upping the humidity too early. I moved to dry incubation after having issues with high humidity here so I wouldn't up the humidity early but it might be fine for you in your climate. Would mostly depend on what the humidity had been for the rest of the hatch I'd think.

Good luck and if you do lock down early let us know how you go.

the first two days 56%. The next 12 days 35%. there was one 8 hour period where it dipped to 16%. TMI? I started with 'normal' humidity and switched to dry hatch.

I have trouble with high humidity down here as well so I dry incubate too. I have stopped turning on day 17 before - bad math

- but I follow Pete55 advice and I don't actually bump up the humidity till I see the first pip. It worked really good on Deb's beautiful eggs

First two hatches I had a problem with large chicks drowning before they hatched
