My boys have one tentatively named Yoshi as well we figured it was less gender specific!

I am up to six chicks now, and my neighbor brought over some gold laced wyandotte chicks her hen hatched out and said, "Merry Christmas"! I am so pleased, the lavenders are shipped eggs, and i even had a BCM hatch, which is a first for me.

Well my chicks are still in their shells where I'm expecting them to stay till at least later tonight or tomorrow. I am going to go peek with the torch and see if I can see any pips though all is quiet in there so far. It's very hard to see in my 'bator, only one small window.

Turns out we're expecting extreme heat tomorrow so we won't be going to my parents place till Monday when it's cooler. Good thing there are no little kids to get upset about postponing Christmas for a day.

Before work I did my routine 'bator check. Tentative due date being tomorrow. But we had a few hiccups along the way... there wasn't a peep, pip, peck, scratch, rock or rumble coming from the three eggs I have. When I got home tonight there are two HEALTHY pipped eggs, and one quiet one. No worries though, I bet the quiet one is just slow, it still has plenty of time to get crackin!

I am lucky any of them made it...there were four, and they were under my broody hen for two full weeks. One day when I got home from errands, she had kicked one out on the floor and left the nest. She must have decided it was winter time and she was DONE!!! Can't blame her really. So I gathered the eggs up right quick, even though they had been sitting in 30-something degree weather for up to 2 hours. I tucked them close to my body while I warmed the incubator, then stuck them in there and hoped for the best. They showed signs of "normal" life right away, she can't have been off the nest for too long before I found them.

I just pumped up my humidity... I hope by morning I will have at least two healthy new Polish Crested Bantams!!!Happy Day

Update on my eggs, started out with 14 and today was lockdown so I re-candeled and had a few that had stopped developing & 9 made it to lockdown with a Monday hatch date. (2-BO, 2-SLW & 5-GLW). Hopeing I can go 9 for 9 on hatch day.

Well, To the person worried about their EE's I had a very bright metal halide torch in a box in a dark room and couldn't see anything other than sometimes an air sac. I had a few hiccups along the way and was very worried. I also had one make one tiny hole yesterday and then nothing for almost 24 hours. I was sure he was a drowning victum or shrink wrapped. I wanted to help. But I ahead of time had planned a 12 hour round trip to my mother-in-laws for today with the express purpose of keeping me away from the bator.

I came home and she was out along with 3 friends 2 EE's and one BCMaran. then we watched as another EE made her way out. So don't give up hope Those EE's are hard to see through that shell. As the saying goes 'hands off that bator". That was the best advice BYC has given me yet. Waiting on 7 more. A couple haven't pipped yet so I'm back to worried. Anxious to get the fluffy ones out but fortunately my hubby is still up so he'll keep me in line. He actually got a video of the last one hatching. The best part was I got to share it with my daughter. She is thirteen and there isn't much left that still impresses her. Hope at least one more maran hatches.
