on another note, can anyone who has experience tell me: how bad can a newly hatched chick damage unhatched eggs? i still have 6 pipped and the new hatch is spazzing all over the incubator knocking into everything. i'm worried about my pippers, they're getting tossed about. one that i saw zipping i dont even see anymore, i think it got flipped over and in a corner, is that bad?

I generally hatch them in egg cartons, but I am sure hens just have them in a pile. Unless they crack one not ready to hatch, I don't think it will hurt anything. Deb

Ok, final count on chicks hatched. I have 8 babies. I had 12 go into lock down, so not too bad.
And, one more that didn't make it, was black.
I wrote to the guy, he said he has Australorps, and thought that a hen must have gotten into the other run and laid. An Australorp, with green legs? He doesn't know there were two yet. He did offer to refund me for the one, but I'll probably get more from him in a month or so, these little NH are darling! Just a fluff of yellow/buff color. I know my camera won't capture the true cuteness and color, but I will post them later when they are all fluffed up...the last one just hatched. I'll just ask him if he can throw a couple of extras in.

Melissa! I am sooo excited. I know exactly where that swing is going in my coop run. This is going to be fun to watch when they find out it is a fun toy! Thank you for everything!

I am soo sorry about nugget and teacup.

Just grab up a handfull of babies and snuggle them for a few seconds..or longer, and feel the fun of the healthy ones. Merry Christmas! 16! Wow!

up to 16 now, but I didn't check the Bator in the garage tonight. My friend brought over three more GLW chicks that her hen hatched out. Merry Christmas!:-D

Thank you ALL for your kind words, support and well-wishes about our two little peeps that sadly did not make it.. I'm still new at this - I need to relax and just let things happen understanding that there will be occasional losses. Our first hatch 7 weeks ago went really well so I was not prepared for all the drama we experienced this time! We do have 16 beautiful and healthy chicks to be thankful for this Christmas. Hubby wants to incubate 42 eggs after the first of the year and I'm like.. Noooooooooo!!!

LOL

I love you all, love this forum (I have learned so much!) and look forward to sharing many more stories and pictures with all my new BYC friends.

Merry Christmas everyone!
