We have 5 babies hatched. None today. They decided to come early. They hatched the 22nd and 23rd. All are in the brooder. They are the friendliest chicks I have ever hatched.
Collen I am so sorry about the chickes. Its so hard to lose them.

Thanks guys, i do love my chickens! Does everyone add minerals to their diet? Our soil is lacking selenium so I add a handful of minerals to every bucket of feed, just like I do for the goats.

Hatched 3 out so far today, still waiting on one egg. I may candle it to see if it's alive after the 'bator having been off yesterday.

Awww, Melissa Rose, those two polish are adorable, I especially like the brown one. So cute!!

Merry Christmas everyone. It is still peaceful at my house, the kids are still asleep. I am going to start baking again before they get up. Maybe if I keep busy the peeps will hatch sooner.

sleep?! who needs it? we had 9 chickie babies before midnight. and 5 after midnight (so far) i am of course a nervous new momma this being my first hatch and all. i cant sleep with all the excitement. i try to move the babies into the brooder 2 or 3 at a time after they fluff so that the eggs still to hatch arent run over 50 million times. the fluffed guys just get so happy to have a new sibling that they about smother it and roll all over the place in there. i added another light to the brooder to help it get above 90* and i raised the thermostat in the house, something i wont even do for my own children. i always tell them to put on a sweater, lol. well, if they made sweaters small enough for chicks maybe i wouldnt have to worry...

I ended up with 6 Christmas Eve babies and two so far on Christmas Day.. the one little guy that pipped yesterday hasn't shown much progress.. might have to create a little Christmas Miracle of my own.
