we are at 18 hatched. 1 zipping, its taken her close to 4 hours to zip that shell and she's still at it. 1 pip thats been there all day, and 2 barely pipped so i'm hoping for at least those 4 to make it tonight.

i think BLRW are such pretty birds. maybe one of these days i'll introduce those into my backyard. then again, i like those polish, and lemon orps... decisions decisions...

You made it? Let us know how it is..I am smelling a late put in turkey roast right now. It's almost time to eat.
Sad thing is, poor DH is making everything. I broke my pinky toe this morning as I was getting ready for church! It's all swollen, black and blue, those pretty chicken colors we like, and I can hardly walk on that foot. I am so mad at myself!! I was hurrying to give one of my grandchildren something, and smacked it right into the fish tank stand..which is made of steel..it's black too...

K, so I finally laughed at myself.

Oh No sorry about the toe! My hubby did the same exact thing today although he is blaming it on a duck injury. Said he was watching the ducks while walking and wasnt watching where he was walking and the little toe jammed into the ottoman.

I told him sorry cant chalk that up to a duck related injury! He has it put back in its place all taped nicely to its neighboring toe.
I hope you heal up with little pain but if it is like him - he is loving me waiting on him hand and foot!

I am gonna upload some pics of all my babies from the past two days!

i asked my husband to help pick the recipe and we choose the Baked Vidalia Cheddar Dip also. and he wants me to make it right now he said, lol.

i've left the incubator alone for about an hour and when i checked there were 3 more chicks. that brings our total to 21. and the little long time zipper is still trying to figure her way out. oh, and i have a chick with curled under toes so i get to make a shoe later. how lucky, we have cars 2 bandaids courtesy of my son

Kizanne - not good. Teacup is too weak to stand now and just won't eat. Nugget has intestines hanging out. Totally freaked me out and it made me sick to my stomach (that I can't do anything for him). I had to put him back in the box and just let it go. I cried all morning while baking and putting together food for tomorrow. I did the best I know how, but somehow I think I'm just prolonging the inevitable when I try to "doctor" them up. This is EXACTLY why I didn't become a veterinarian - I get sooooo emotionally involved with each and every one!

On the bright side, we do have 16 beautiful and healthy chicks that are doing great.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I now know the real way you felt. I just had one like it. I don't get it. Like your nugget I guess. It was fine, except splayed legs. I thought that the tummy had a dark area while I was taping the legs. It must have been real thin skin there. I put tape on the splayed legs, then put it in a short glass to let it settled down. It was one that was keeping it's eyes shut more often than not, but I just thought it was still coming around from being hatched yesterday.
I went to check on it, lifted it, and my goodness! I have never had this happen before. A lot of yolk, and quite a bit of intestine coming out. I crushed up a sleeping pill, and gave her some as I know that there is no way that I can do anything for this little one. It's really bad. You have to wonder the why's when these things happen.

Melissa that is very thoughtful of you to send everyone a swing! I would love to have one!!! God Bless you for all your hard work and wonderful Christmas spirit!!!!

Just a little warm story for you all for the season of giving.... yesterday My 2 boys and I (their ages are 10 and 2 1/2) were at walmart getting last minute things for the dinner later for the family gathering and I ran into a lady I know quite well. She was telling us about 3 little boys who weren't going to have a Christmas this year and she and a few ladys from her church were getting them a few thing for Christmas. So after talking to my dear friend for a few minutes the boys and I went straight to the toy area and selected some things for these 3 little boys to unwrap on Christmas. I loved watching my oldest son Joshua think very carefully about the gifts we were selecting for the little boys. we got them a few thing each and sent them on their way to their special journey. I love to teach my boys the importance of caring in this world. this is the 2nd lesson this year for my joshua, He has realized it is better to give than to recieve and to always be thoughtful to anothers feelings. I am soo proud of him for being so caring and loving even to someone he has never met!! Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, I am just so happy and blessed to have my boys and a loving family and caring friends to share my life with.. Merry Christmas everyone and God Bless you and yours!!!!!

oh my i'm so sorry for both of you. i expect i'm going to have a few problems with my later hatches. i'm trying not to worry too much but my heart goes out to those of you who have dealt with the stress of loss. right now i'm trying to avoid my incubator and hope for the best.
