My Buff Orpington went broody almost every month during spring and summer. She's as bad as Silkies. I guess every chicken is different.

Thank you!!If you want good quality chicks, you can check with dheltzel. He has great pullets in spring, including Welbar (welsummer with barring), Legbars, Olive eggers. These are all good layers of Dark Brown (really dark), blue, and olive eggs. They are very friendly chickens too. He will ship chicks to PA places. Here's his website: http://welbars.com/
Our local TSC is terrible! One of my friends ordered 7 EE pullets there and 4 were roosters! She ordered from State College TSC. I order lots of chicken supplies there, but never chicks!Tractor Supply and similar stores buy their chicks from the major hatcheries. My local TSC buys from Murray's, but in southern Michigan they buy from Townline Hatchery. If you are going to buy from a large hatchery anyway, why not just buy from your local supplier? I know the minimum of our TSC is 4 chicks/ducklings. From Family Farm and Feed, which buys from Townline, they have no minimum.

I believe the State College TSC really don't know anything about chicks. I think they labeled straight run EEs as Ameraucana pullets. One time I saw half of the red sexlink pullets were light yellow color, so they are either roosters or another breed.Muncy location when I buy they are always pullets![]()
Oh my goodness beautiful!!Are these the only breeds there are to choose from?
I see this breed is not on your poll, but I'll say it anyway:
If you are looking for a friendly chicken, our Prairie Bluebell Eggers are the sweetest and best breed we have! We have two of them, they are absolutely the best, they are super calm when picked up, and they're always flying on our shoulders just to hang out!
Their eggs are a gorgeous blue, too:
