chicks hatching from small end

Could you please explain how high temps would cause the embryos to breech?

Because that's how it worked in my world. Incubator hot spots tend to cause (Early/staggered hatches), (Breech), and (Clubfoot) or what ever you want to call it, as well as incubator related mortality in general. How do I know this? I purchased a science experiment in a box. An LG styrobator. Under ideal conditions, a coturnix chick will breech .01% of the time. Any greater % and you should check your bator/thermometer, or your genome.

I't dont. We average 1000 or so breech pips every year, Our incubaters are dead on.

Are you sure they are "Dead on" with no hot spots?
For the sake of my number crunching fetish..... 1000 breeches out of how many eggs set? Please say at least 10,000

Overcooking The Eggs Causes Rapid Development And Premature Hatch... Thats How It Can Cause Breech Pipping. Y'all Should An Idea Of That If You Hatch Many Eggs, Or Have A Very Good Idea Of Egg Anatomy And Embryo Developement Stages.. Deerman Also Makes Good Point In That Insufficient Turning Will Lead To Stuck Embryos Which Can Also Cause Pip Positioning Problems As Well. So Can Insufficient Humidity, In That If The Egg/ Embryo Looses Too Much Weight (the Loss Of Fluid- Specifically Amniotic Fluid In This Case) The Lil Fellow Wont Be Able To Position Itself Well Or At All.

Yes the roll-x is a great incubator ,best eggs on the side , like nature. Now when you got the eggs in you should store the eggs large end up overnight..for air cell to move to large end...saw this before.

I use my roll-x for high dollar eggs, like parrots. now my GQF sportsmans egg are set large end up. main reason is for easy of turning. My peafowl eggs are layed on their side even in the sportsman except i have to hand turn them.

Oh see your is a turn-x still same thing , I have 3 of those, 1 roll-x those i used mostly with the parrot eggs.

For Hatching Lg End Up Has Been Proven To Increase Your Hatch Rates.... Mostly By Eliminating Chicks Drowning En Utero (pip And Drown In Their Own Amniotic Fluids)... It Is A Noticeable Eincrease In Hatch Rate... Works For All Bird Eggs. My Suggestion If Your Game Is A Homework Assignment-- Try It And See.

Now As Far As Turning I Dont Know Of Any Reason Lg End Up Or Side Laying Would Make A Difference Either Way, But For Lockdown And Hatching I Have Seen It Myself And Now Swear By It. It Would Also Help The Lil Boogers Get Into Correct Pip Position.

Well will have to disagree.....the lyon turn-x ,roll-x ,even my hatchrite incubator are the best incubator for hatching...these all the eggs are layed on their side and rolled for turning.

Also learn from another peafowl breeder about setting peafowl eggs on their side and hand turning, before that had alot of formed chicks that died the last day....then try his way improve about 20 % better hatch on peafowl eggs.

With all that said , chicken, quail, pheasant eggs not much change if set either way...still the lyon incubator still gave better hatch rate

DEERMAN I RESPECT YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE. ALL I CAN SAY IS I DID THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT MYSELF A FEW YRS AGO AND WAS CONVINCED BY THE RESULTS. WOULDNT HAVE BELIEVED IT IF I HADNT SEEN IT WITH MY OWN 2 EYES... I AM FAMILIAR WITH TURN X AND ROLL X INCUBATORS- NICE UNITS, YES VERY SUCCESSFUL EQUIPMENT, BUT FOR LOCKDOWN YOU COULD STILL PLACE THE EGGS IN CARTONS FOR UPRIGHT HATCHING AS YOU'RE NOT ACTIVELY ROLLING THEM ANYMORE.

AS FAR AS YOUR PEAFOWL EGGS? SORRY I AM NOT VERSED IN PEAFOWL SO THEREFORE UN-EQUIPPED TO HELP WITH THAT SPECES. BUT THERE CERTAINLY ARE SOME SPECES OUT THERE THAT HAVE PECULIARITIES LIKE THAT... HAVE ASSOCIATES WHO SWEAR BY HAND-TURNING BUTTON EGGS??? WHATEVER WORKS.

SERIOUSLY THO I SUGGEST TRYING THE UP RIGHT HATCH METHOD WITH ANY QUAIL/ CHICKEN/ TURKEY/ DUCK/ PHEASANT SPECES... AT LEAST THOSE I HAVE SEEN WITH MY OWN 2 EYES. NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED? GIVE IT A WHIRL AND SEE IF IT HALPS WITH YOUR INCUBATIONS

AND IF YOU STILL DISAGREE? THATS OK TOO, I'LL STILL LOVE YOUR SNOWFLAKE BOB PIX

I very much agree, Some of the most sophisticated incubators in the world is designed for the eggs to lay on their sides. we've done our homework here for 30 years,I't makes no difference when it comes to quail

Its find people disagree all the time....with those small still air incubators , move eggs fom turners to floor of the incubator, father away from the heating unit eggs will get cooler...All my eggs go into hatching tray in hatchiers layed flat. Even my 3,000 egg jamesway, GQF sportsman hatcher. just like those 10,000 + eggs hatcher at the big hatchery.

Peace...
