chicks hatching with eye issues?

I had some OEGB hatch yesterday and today. One chick has a very swollen eyeball with a small cloudy spot on it. (Pecked in the eye, maybe?) The other I just helped out of the shell because it was stuck, and noticed that it's eye is completely cloudy, although normal. Does anyone know what could cause chicks to have eye problems upon hatch? Is there some sort of illness that could infect the embryo while still in the shell, or could it just be some sort of genetic thing?

I remember a post a while back, that someone else had this problem. Try the search button and see if it comes up, I do not remember what was the cause.

I think it could be CRD causing problems but I am not sure. I ordered from a hatchery and some of the chicks had eye problems on arrivial and later they had colds that I am still fighting Needless to say I am not ever ordering hatchery birds again as I had no health problems until I brought in those chicks. I was reading CRD can cause all sorts of problems with the eggs and the chicks

CRD = chronic resperatory disease (sp)?
Farmgirlie i had the same problem with hatchery chicks, sad part was they were in with serama babies and infected one of those too. I too will NEVER order hatchery birds ever again. Blisschick
