Chicks in Brooder?

I have a couple Rhode Island Red Chicks in a 6 sq ft tote brooder, about 30in tall. How long should I, or could I, keep them in there?

By "a couple" do you mean two or? Do you have a cover for the top?

Yes 2 chickens, actually 1 Rhode Island and 1 Golden Comet. And yes I will make one within the next week.
