I just brought home 3 frizzled cochins that are 2-3 weeks old. Im not quite sure about the heat lamp situation during the summer. They are outside in a brooder and the temps are low of 75-80 at night and are beginning to hit 100 during the day. I realize that they do not need it during the day but what about at night?

I'd maybe put a regular lightbulb in there in such a way that they can move far away from it if they want. The red bulbs probably generate too much heat for Texas summer nights. The only other issue I could see is if they are in 75 degree weather with a lot of drafts - then they would need some heat source.

I am not the norm but at three weeks old I would turn off the heat already.
