The chicks, now eight weeks old , and the dog a Beagle have met with the run fencing between them. There was allot of barking at first but as time has gone on it has diminished and he seemed to have lost interest. I decided that today they would meet face to face. Early this morning while they were free ranging the yard I let the dog out. He walked out and looked the the Chick for a few seconds then acted like he was going to charge. I told him to go back in the house and he complied. Later in the day I decided to try again. I let the chickens out of the run and called the dog outside, He came out, looked around seemingly with little interest in the chickens. Then he slowly started walking in their direction. He walked up to one of the chicks which was separated from the rest of the flock. They look at each other and start slowly approaching as if in an old west gunfight. Then it happened, all of a sudden the whole flocks runs and flys towards the dog. It was over in an instant, the dog runs to the deck chicks following, he turns around and looks at them then runs in the house. He came back out several more times in the day but wants nothing to do with that angry mob of chicks.
