My little chicks only want to eat their starter, which has too much corn and little nutrition. I tried making my own chick starter with granola and I ground it up to the same consistency of their starter. They took one bite and ignored it. They are getting their big girl feathers so I want them to have enough vitamins, but they won't eat their damn food. I tried mixing the two foods to gradually get them accustomed. didn't work

What is the starter that you say has too much corn and little nutrition? Is it a commercially prepared formulation? What is the protein content? What is the mill date? Making your own feed with granola is a sure fire way to set them up for nutritional deficiencies unless you have a degree in management of animal nutrition. Give them a prepared chick starter that is within 6 weeks of mill date. This is what they need.

If ain’t broke don’t fix it. Having chic starter feed is just what it is for chicks just starting out. I’m VERY guilty of wanting to spoil my chickens (dogs too). Sometimes it takes a couple of introductions of a NEW treat for them to recognize that it’s good or yummy (unless a older chick shows them). You may find yourself like me now I have to say sorry girls no more treats....eat your feed! A quality feed is just that-well :yesss: balanced and nutritious. I need to just stick to that my own self!!!
