Ok at what point do chicks become chickens?? When they go off starter feed? When they go off grower/finisher? When they lay an egg? Just curious lol.

i think it's once an egg is layed that they go onto layer feed. but you can still feed them the starter/grower if you want, but you have to make sure they get calcium suppliments once they start laying. the extra protein in the starter grower couldn't hurt. we have our hens on start/grower and they have had oyster shells to peck at when needed...and no problems.

They become hens about 6-8 months depending on breed( first egg). We used starter until they lay their first egg and then they get laying formula.

Chicken Stages:

1. Egg
2. Chick
3. Velocirapter
4. Vulture
5. Big Chick
6. Little Chicken
7. Chicken

I'm pretty sure these are the correct terms used by all famous chicken scientists.

And don't forget 'chook'.

Um, I don't think there's necessarily an 'answer' since they're actually chickens all the time. When does an infant become human?

A chick is always a chicken if it was hatched from parent chickens.

Chicken - species

Chick - baby chicken
Pullet - young female chicken
Hen - adult female chicken
Cockerel - young male chicken
Rooster - adult male chicken

For comparison, let's do turkey.

Turkeys - species

Poult - baby turkey
jake - young male turkey
tom - adult male turkey
jenny - female turkey (I'm not sure if there is a different name of young versus adult for females)

I think it's when they lay their first big girl egg. The little ones that they start laying are reffered to as pullet eggs. Just an observation.
