Our big feed store cannot get chicks either. The hatchery that was here in WA has closed and has referred everyone to Dunlap in Idaho.
Well, I hear that they cannot keep up. The Manager of the store told me when I was buying salt licks for my horses that he want chicks from me. (I won't buy my chicken food there because they are too expensive.)
I told him he couldn't afford my birds and they would'nt be sexed and he said he didn't care what they cost and that he just needed birds.
I guess he almost had a riot in the store because of the 50 birds ordered, he got 6-8 and the people were fighting over who got them.
So I will be setting all my extra eggs to hatch chicks now instead of selling them for eating. I figure if I get just six chicks out of every dozen eggs I was going to sell for eating, that's a way better profit margin!!!!
