After reading the necropsy, my first thought is no access to dirt or pebbles (grit) and treats (you mentioned herbs such as parsley and dill) and plants as food that could impact their crop and gizzard. Just stick with chick crumbles unless they are outdoors with access to dirt, or you put some sand or (chick grit in with them). We live and we learn. Don't beat yourself up. Many people don't realize they need sand and pebbles to "chew" their food. Sorry for your loss.
