Yesterday I was in the brooder room, filling up the chicks’ food and water and such. I noticed one of the little Ameraucana chicks trying to take a dust bath in the wood shavings. I’ve raised two other flocks before and never put dust in with them, until they were big enough to move to the coop and find their own dust outside. Now I’m wondering if I should give them a little bowl of sand or something for them to take a dust bath in. 🐤

My birds take baths in their wood shavings all the time. I'm sure they would appreciate a container of sand, but they don't strictly need it. Chicks a week old take dust baths, they usually just take longer to learn when not raised by a hen.

Ok, thanks. I’ll let them practice in their shavings. I couldn’t handle a container of spilled sand lol

I was told they will eat the sand. It isn't very good for them. Put some of their food on the floor of the brooder. They can dust in that while eating

I did read that to. That’s one of the reasons I decided not to, I was just wondering if I should
