chicks to return to the hen house

Hi, I wanted to let you know that all is well here. Last night half of the birds went into the coop by them selves.

My son heard the rest and they went in by them selves. now they go in and out all day long so I think we got the problem solved.

They sure are something to watch. I never thought that chickens could be so entertaining. this morning the dog was laying next to me and the birds thought that his tail was really something else, and would pick at it, until I started laughing, then he wag his tail and then they all ran. then one of the roo jumped on his back and layed downlayed and the dog said o.k. and put his head down, and they both went to sleep. Boy what a time not to have a camera with you. So again thank you for your time and advice.

Sweety I have no idea sorry. This is the first time for me ,I never had chickens before. I wish I could help, I'll look it up and let you know If I find out any thing.

Chickens are sure fun to have around. We've only had ours for a few months and I'm in love with them. I already have "plans" for more, but gonna have to wait until we can expand on currant coop/run.

I have a mamma hen with 2 chicks, At night they sleep in a dog carrier on the front porch in the morning I let them out and at night they go back to their "Coop."
It took them about 4 - 5 days to figure out where "Home" was.

HI, I am new to chickens myself, we bought 9 from a feed store, at about 2 weeks old. We built a run right outside the coop door, they are still in the run during the day. When they hear my voice, they run to me...or the edge of the fencing. I have spent time with them so they would get to know me and trust me.

I give them a treat, grapes etc...at night inside the coop and they pile over each other to get in. I haven't let them out of the run yet into the yard, I was waiting a couple more weeks for that. But if you do the same thing every night, they will get the routine down and do it all the time. I just use the same call, "here chick chick chick" and they know it's time to go in. I have high hopes the same thing happens when we let them into the yard...good luck!

I have been doing the same thing, and more then half of them are going in with no problems. But then there's always the few that don't seem to think that the rules are for all.

But they are herding in much better. We just put up a wooden barrier for the time and now there trying to go over, to the next part of the yard. we live way out in the desert and we have to travel pretty far just to go to larger stores for shopping. we are going today to pick up feed and fencing.I will also buy treats for them, there so cute.how did you like the pic of the dog and his new friend?::

hi every one, I just wanted to let you all know baby's are going in the coop on there own now. I think what we were doing wrong was trying to get them in too early. Last night we waited until it was almost dark and when we went out they were all but 4 in the coop. I can't tell you how proud we were. Thanks every one.

Ahhhhh, yes, the parental "You should go to bed now" versus the juvenile "No, I wanna stay out and play some more!"

Glad to hear it's all worked out. I, too, was so proud the night all the youngsters found their way back into the coop without my involvement!
