Chicks with swollen, crusted shut eyes.

Could you send this to me in a Private Message (PM)? Thanks!

Can anyone tell me what to do for infected eyes? That is why I posted this thread. I have been putting aloe vera in their eyes and have seen a very small amount of improvement. I also heard that putting triple antibiotic ointment in their eyes help infections too, so I put some in just a little while ago. Hopefully that will help them.

You can use triple antibiotic, without pain relief, in the eyes. That should help.

I have to caution. There is NO cure for Coryza. It will make every one of your birds ill and every bird that you try to bring into your flock will become ill. As I have read and understand, Coryza carriers must have been infected and recover to become carriers. By euthanizing the sick birds, you will be saving the lives of all your other birds and any future birds. Whenever your birds experience stress, they will become symptomatic again and you will need a new antibiotic to treat since the bacteria become immune to the last antibiotic. It can become very expensive, very quickly.

I understand your decision about euthanizing. I hate the thought myself but before I allowed the new chicks to infect my older birds, it would be something that would have to be done.

In the end, it is your flock, your decision. I just wanted to give you the information so that you can make an informed decision.
