Chicks

[King Quail]

Hello quail lovers. Question on King Button Quail. My hen sat on 8 eggs wasn't sure they were going to hatch but 5 did so far. I was really sad to see the male toss them around and be so aggressive towards them. The same day they hatched he killed them. I have separated the female and rest of the eggs from him so he cannot get to them till they grow. Hoping the rest hatch. Not sure why he did this, please help answer. Thanks so much.

I am sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way but now you know not to trust him around babies in the future.

not all male king quail make good fathers but some do
I had to remove a loner button from my brooder because he was picking on a new pheasant chick.......when he was already in with older pheasant chicks.

I have a pair of king quails who have hatched several clutches of chicks. The male was aggressive towards them, so I had to separate him. Unfortunately, it can be quite common.

I'm so sorry this happened to you Hopefully some more will hatch, but if not, the female will probably lay another clutch and try again (I know this from experience).
