Chihuahuas: Input...UPDATE!!

I agree with everyone. I have only ever met one Chihuahua I've ever liked and she belongs to my grandma. We would be able to advise better knowing what your capabilities are. Lastly, Cavalier King Charles are great dogs. I have a Cavachon, part C K C Spaniel and part Bishon Frise.

My mother raises tiny chihuahuas. They are Yappy, loyal, and BITE. I would not recommend a Chi to anyone. I have the dog you want, but he's staying here!

Check out the website below for pomeranians available in your area. They are friendly, quiet, loyal, loving, snuggly, smart and surprisingly low maintenance. Males are best, because they do not shed...at least very little.

I currently have 4 chihuahuas (3 rescues) and I must say, they arent the dogs for everyone!
3 of the 4 I have are snappy, bite, bark all the time, etc.
But I do love the breed

I can walk and do regular activities, but I have Fibromyalgia, and so my muscles are weak and there are often days that I'm just not able to do high energy activities. I would describe myself as having a somewhat low energy level and am not very strong, so I don't want a dog that I have to struggle to "keep up with". It wouldn't be fair to the dog either, if it were a high energy breed. I can of course bring the dog on walks, play in the yard, etc., but for the most part I am at home, mellow and not very active. So I'd like a mellow companion breed that's conducive with my lifestyle. I suppose you might compare my physical needs with that of a senior.

Chihuahuas are typically one person dogs, so probably wouldn't be snappy or bite with YOU, but may very well do so with others if not socialized early and constantly. And yes, they are yappy. And high energy.

I second the suggestion of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. Nice dogs!

Papillions are my dream lap dog, second only to a cocker spaniel which would not be a good match for your current situation. Grooming and all that.

I am also a fan of the Bischon Frise but again...grooming.

The Boston Terrier might be a thought. The ones that I have met are very nice. Bark for an alert but then settle right down.

My Dad has a Llasa Apso. He takes her to get groomed about every 8 weeks and in between does very little grooming. Relatively low maintainance and isnt a yapper.
Not real great around little children who move fast and grab.

Grandparents had a Mini Schnauzer. Loved her. Had to be taken to a groomer every 8 weeks but in between not much maintainance.
Had energy but not bouncy crazy energy like a Chihuahua or a Jack Russell.

And that is the extent of my lap dog knowledge.

**I cant wait to see what you end up getting**

Boston Terriers are low maintenance and if they are the only dog, they are quite happy jumping up on your lap and keeping you company all day.

I should have mentioned that, I do live alone. Although I do have 2 dog-friendly cats and a house bunny. So my future dog will need to be pet friendly.

Also, it does not need to be pure breed. A mixed breed is perfectly fine, but it's hard to research mixed breeds of course.
