Chihuahuas: Input...UPDATE!!

Sounds like love to me...crossed eye and all. Looks like a puppy because of the puppy haircut.

I know, he looks perfectly unperfect. But I'm sure he's long gone.... I always miss the boat.

Even if he is already gone, go back frequently. The turnover at shelters is high and they are always getting in more dogs. Sometimes it takes a few weeks/months to find the right one.

I'll never buy a dog again. Rescue is the only way for me now.

I really would prefer a rescue dog. The only reason I keep focusing on "breed talk" is because I'm trying to find a dog with the right energy level and temperament, etc., and that's hard to research with rescue dogs (mixed breeds I mean). But you're right, I should probably just call some shelters, explain my needs, and have them call me if a match becomes available. I assume they would do that.

Oh, they're all so cute, especially the two dark ones, love their faces!

But realistically, I am suspecting these sweet Chihuahuas are a rarity. I think I'd be better looking for a different breed. Did you see the one I posted above? The shelters closed already for the day, but I'll call tomorrow. I'm sure he's probably gone though.....

I would call they might have a different one. I love rescue dogs I check out our local pound a lot. You might find a dog that you never thought of. Like I said my son found his husky at the pound a cinnamon colored one blue eyed husky that he priced at around $1500 he paid $150 and has a great love able dog that loves kids. I would keep my eyes on your local shelters If you have a larger town near by I would visit there also. Sometimes people have to get rid of their dogs due to moving for jobs. Hope you find the dog that is meant for you. Thank you for saying that about my dogs I do love them. Annie is 4lbs and hippie is 5lbs he is the quiet and lover of the two. The cool thing is buddy can tell when I am going to have a flair and warns me so I can be ready and make arrangements for my meds ect.

My SIL has a Pap and he was nasty, yappy and don't like kids from get go since as a pup. She also has two mini poodles which they are just as bad as Chi's. Her Pap loves to chew on anything and everything, high strung as well. She got the Pap from the pet store UGH!

Neighbor behind me has a Chi which sometimes yappy but not in excessive. Had to take him out often to pee.

Pugs are very loyal and devoted dogs, my FIL had three of them, one of them was dumped by a breeder and the other two were spoiled rotten.

Too bad there are no smooth haired Shelties, sometimes they can be yappers and others are very quiet.

Good idea to look around in shelters. Be mindful, they can put so much restrictions that it is disheartening to adopt one. We've tried that and hated so many restrictions so it is no go for us.

Not a fan of Chihuahuas usually. My aunt had one and he was the nastiest tempered dog I've ever met. But my daughter just got a Chi-Toy Fox mix and he is a very nice dog.

Love Papillons! Grooming can be an issue there, tho.

We had a Shi Tzu mix when I was growing up. Great dog! Not yappy, sweet, and smart.

What about a Shiba Inu? Friends have one, and they socialized him very well and trained him right, and Kiko is one of the best dogs I know.

Or a pug. The place I board my Lab is a pug breeder. Hers are really nice dogs. Yap when I pull in the driveway, but then just want petting and to see if I have any food on me! LOL And she often has or knows of rescues available for adoption.

My aunt raised them when I was a little girl. Can't stand them.

We have a pack of them, not kidding, like 20+ that live just on my block. They chase down kids and old people and the ice cream man, you name it. So far the Pittbulls in the neighborhood just sit behind their fences and stare at them. Five of them had my grand daughter and he 2 little friends pinned between a gate between out house and theres.

Hyper? One of my daughters grew up with a girl that lived with her grandmother. She had 10 of them. They would run up and down the stairs just for the heck of it. Even when they weren't trying to bite all the little girls.

OK that's my Chi rant. Don't get me started on Labs.

Oh forgot,

We had Pekes and a Peke Cocker mix (got her when I was 7 and I was 24 when she died. People say they are yap dog, but they aren't. They're tiny little regal lions. LOL

California sends lots of them out of state to be adopted. The whole state is over run with them.

Maybe you can google and find out if they are going to be sending any your way.

I agree, rescuing is the way to go! I have a wonderful rescued 9 1/2 year old lab mix. She has such a wonderful personality! We got her when she was 11 months old, she had almost been put down three times.Luckily, a local rescue group had pulled her out each time to save her. She is a great dog, very low energy, always at your side, never had an accident the entire time we've had her. Good luck finding a dog, check back at the shelter often!

I've had chihuahua's many times in my many years and never had one that didn't need/want lots of attention. They are high energy dogs.

LOVE love love them but personally, I don't think this breed would fill your needs.
