Chihuahuas: Input...UPDATE!!

Hey Mak, I've been trying to get through but the line has been busy!

Yes, if you looked, you see my problem. So many dogs, and none are what I'm looking for. A bunch of large dogs, or dogs that clearly wouldn't be compatible with me. Yes, I am being picky, I admit it. I have a specific situation and just grabbing any available dog would be foolish. I've been doing this for a long time now. I found a beautiful spaniel mix online that seems PERFECT, but the owner wants to adopt her out together with her mother dog, and I'm just not prepared for two dogs. It's a shame too, because it's otherwise perfect. The owner is dying of cancer (that's not the perfect part of course, but I mean it's not just an irresponsible dog owner ditching their dog), she has been obedience trained, is small in size and very affectionate. I exchanged a couple of nice emails with the owner's sister-in-law, but she said she is really trying to rehome them together as first choice, which I understand. She said if she is unable to home them together, she will contact me. But they're beautiful dogs and I'm sure she'll have no trouble finding them a home. Meanwhile, I'm still trying to get through to the shelter about the above dog.

as puppies they are calm but when they get older they bark a lot and bite a lot and they can be bossy try to find somebody that has pomerians we have one loves my cat, cat loves him, really calm, barks at strangers sometimes, and never bites. when they are puppies they will bite but that is because their teeth hurt. i would try to get a pomerian go to pomerianrescue.com i think that is the website they have hundreds of pomerians waiting to be adopted i think that is the website i will have to check with my mom shes on there all the time hope this helps!

sounds like an English Bulldog might be a good match for you if you want a cuddly mellow fellow.

Personally I'm a lab lover. I put time into training my pup and she is a huge lap dog that has very good manners.

Have you looked at your shelter for maybe an adult dog? Most puppies are going to be high energy and need lots of training. Good luck on your search for the perfect companion.

I haven't read through to the end yet, but I had to second this thought. We have 8 dogs, 4 of the smaller dogs are chihuahua mixes and we have 1 full chihuahua (they are a popular breed here in the southwest!) and they are all rescues. The chi-mixes are all sweet dogs and only one is yappy. I sort of think of her as having youngest child syndrome...she has to yap to be noticed! lol

That being said, my favorite dog of the bunch is our tri-ped Trinity who came to us after living at the town dump in El Paso for a couple of years. Her leg had been broken at some point in her life and healed horribly, so when she came to the rescue they took her to the doctor who said it had to come off. I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibro myself, and she is the perfect snuggle buddy.

If you aren't worried about having a full breed dog, look into your local rescue group. I can guarantee they have a dog who needs you as much as you need it.

BTW-Our full chihuahua is not yappy. I have six kids and she has never bit any of them. The youngest was 2 when Opal came...in fact, he called her "Kutt-Kutt" (his name for her-who knows why!) and he carried her around with his arm around her belly forever and still does. I never liked chihuahua's before because the ones I'd known had horrible manners. I now think they can be great dogs if they are well socialized.

So there, instead of giving you my two cents I gave you a buck and a quarter!

Any news on the dog you were looking at? I know you will find the dog that is meant for you.

I think you should just go to the pound and pick out a calm, cute little dog & be done with it.

I appreciate your bold simplicity, lol, it doesn't seem to be that easy! All the dogs at shelters remotely in my area are either big or very high energy. Every time I see a good candidate, I call and it's gone, like that! But like I posted earlier, at this point I'm thinking of just contacting all the shelters near me, tell them what I want and having them call me if something along my lines becomes available.

To the others who asked the status on the dog I posted, I'm still trying to get through! The line has been busy literally all day.

They close in a while and when I called after hours last night, I discovered they don't have an option to leave a message, so I just keep dialing.
