Child At Heart, Monster By Nature (A Shape Shifting RP)

Haley watched Amaryllis closely, noting her slight shiver as she touched the water. Of course, shivering was perfectly natural. But she'd likely be doing a heck of a lot more of it than that fifteen minutes from now. Haley dried her hands on her pants once she had drunk her fill, then stepped in the water. The water was numbing and the cold air didn't help at all. Obviously.

Amaryllis waded into the water as she waited for Haley, before beginning to walk. She continued for a long time, without complaint, feeling stronger in the water rather than weak as she had anticipated.

"My mom, apparently," Allen mumbled. "Anyway, what kind of dog did you have?" He asked, directing the conversation away from himself.
"A Pit bull and a Labrador mix." Yhgiilra told him. "His name was Silas, and he was pretty fun to have around. Though he eventually died from...Old age."

Haley plodded along behind Amaryllis without a word. She enjoyed the silence around them and the gentle splashing their feet made in the water, though, if the water and weather was warmer she would of enjoyed it even more. "All good?" Haley finally asked, once she was within hearing.

"Labs are good," Allen said simply. He liked dogs, particularly big ones, and labradors were his favorite. "No cats, I assume?"

Madison turned on the bench to face Laurel more fully. "Then what do you mean?" She asked curiously.
~~~
"It means, I can't believe I let you in the car." Leverett surmised for her as he navigated traffic out of the parking garage.
"I don't know.." Laurel stumbled, pausing as she collected her thoughts. "Well, it's not exactly a secret that I'm a freak." She began, slowly. "That was my father’s doing, the wolf DNA didn't make me this way. I suppose it only made it worse." Laurel's forced sarcastic tone quickly change to a lower tone, one more sorrowful. "I've lived all my life in the fear of being hurt by my father or brother, having my fear fulfilled daily. I know I shouldn't be, but yet I'm still scared. Ive always wanted to be strong, or least appear to be to others, but I can't. Not even here. I know my father will eventually come looking for me when he realizes his life is dull without having me entertain or call on him, and this fear is what occupies my dreams as well as my consciousness. I want to move on from my past, but I can't. My scars both physically and mentally bear evidence. The fear of my father won't let me go, and drives me to do all that keeps me from being content. Why else do I shut Razeth away everytime he does something to earn my trust? Or fight Ryker everytime he tries to help me?" Laurel questioned, her low tone demanding to be answered.
~
"Well," Aralyn begin, releasing a breath of frustration. "It isn't like I helped you complete the mission, which if I hadnt would have rewarded you severe punishment by Ryker's anger. So you have absolutely no reason to thank me, or even to let me in this car. Right?" Aralyn smirked, enjoying the silence her words had brought.
"Labs are good," Allen said simply. He liked dogs, particularly big ones, and labradors were his favorite. "No cats, I assume?"
"No, no cats. We had a few that would wander onto our porch from time to time, but my family never let them stick around." Yhgiilra said and sighed. "Kinda felt bad for them. But my home wasn't so great anyways, so I guess perhaps they were better off without it."
"Cats are a nuisance. Dogs are definitely the way to go," Allen said decidedly. "Silas died of old age, you said?" He asked, returning to the dog topic.
"Ah. Of course," Zaine nodded slowly. "I take it you enjoy Tolkien as well?" He asked her once she had settled down. He still couldn't see the humor that Andorra apparently found in "chicken butt" but he decided to just roll with it.
"Huh? Oh." Alexis was about to explain to Dimitri that she wasn't really asking about or offending his mother, but decided against it. He'd figure out her bad sense of humor eventually.
Andorra shrugged and stated, "I've read a few of his books. If that makes me a fan, then I suppose yes, I am."
Dimitri just grinned at Alexis to show he didn't take offense and the subject did have an effect on him. He couldn't miss something he never knew.
(How dare you. As a cat person with five dogs and no cats, I am highly offended.)
"Well, I don't mind cats that much...I like how calm they are. And that's kind of hypocritical, considering you're part cat. But anyway, yeah, I did say that." Yhgiilra nodded.
