Child At Heart, Monster By Nature (A Shape Shifting RP)

Haley nodded her head in agreement to Amaryllis' statement. She glanced once more behind them at the darkening woods then turned her eyes to the setting sun. "It's beautiful," she said, breathless in awe of the light and colors. This sunset really wasn't anything spectacular that evening to the normal person, but she wasn't normal and she hadn't seen a sunset in over a decade. The previous night the clouds had been too thick to see this.

Amaryllis paused to admire the beauty of the setting sun. It seemed like a day since she last enjoyed such a sight, but she knew that it had truly been years. Years that she lived, but hadn't even experienced.

Ryker was not pleased to find that Anuerin was still alone. He'd hoped that Anuerin would have at least doubled back at some point and led them to the girls, but no such luck. At least based upon the evidence he was reading. He looked to the lieutenant and sighed softly. "No sign of the females whatsoever? Not even when their chips stopped transmitting?" Ryker listened as Gram explained why that wasn't known. For he'd failed to realize how much of a head start they had, especially with their escape going unnoticed for so long. He sighed with resignation and shook his head, "Then we'll just have to look in the exact opposite direction Anuerin's consistently running. That will allow a marginal chance of success, until we can get the truth out of him. Send out a team on each side of his backtrack. I want no stone uncovered and every house searched. If the occupants are uncooperative, burn the houses down to the ground. I'll have them one way or another. Dead is just as good. I must make an example of them all. Now take me out to where Anuerin is. It's time I confront my traitorous son." He commanded.

Gram barked out orders to facilitate what Ryker had wanted before leading Ryker over to a waiting Humvee. As they both climbed inside and buckled up, Gram ventured to ask, "Are you sure you don't want us to secure him first?" At Ryker's dark look, Gram dropped the issue. "Understood, Sir." He murmured as he started the vehicle and put it in gear to head out.

Aneurin knew the men had been following him, and for how long he wasn't sure; but once he was far enough from Amaryllis he had begun to constantly change directions, so slightly though that know one besides himself would realize it. Ryker would be furious when he once again found out that Aneurin had fooled him. Ryker alone had himself to blame, he made the mistake of giving Aneurin the DNA that made him the genius he was today.
(I'll reply to the other post later, the only reason I replied out of order was because I wanted to play out the post for Aralyn/Laurel before deciding what to reply with ;) )

Haley waited as long as possible before breaking the peaceful silence. "I suppose we should get on to town?" she asked, though it was more of a statement. That seemed the best choice for now. Get to town and find someone who they could trust to help them.

Razeth made a soft sound of disapproval in the cook. "I hope he's repaid in kind after Ryker is through with him. May the absence of pain medication be his lasting punishment. " He replied almost with a growl. He looked to Laurel with obvious concern. "Are you still in pain now or has it subsided?"

Leverett made a sound in his throat and mumbled as he moved to the driver's side to get in. "Mon Petit, smug does not become you."

Laurel cowered suddenly in thought, the similarity of Ryker's anger compared to her father's becoming quit vivid. She wanted to believe Ryker, trust him like he said she could. But how could she trust a man that reminded her of someone who broke her body and soul?
~
Aralyn closed the trunk and followed after Leverett to her seat on the passenger side. "No?" She said, soundly slightly disappointed, "I know men who would say otherwise." With that she glanced proudly out the window.

Amaryllis looked towards the horizon in thought. "I don't think we have a choice." She replied in quiet uncertainty.

"We've never had a choice," Haley said under her breath. Not bitterly or rudely, she was simply stating the facts. Both of them, for the majority of their lives, had been left without the ability to make their own choices, as they were always made by someone else, typically a guard dressed darkly with a gun. "To town we go then, eh?"

Amaryllis quieted at her words; thinking of her mother reminded her of the hard choices she had always been forced to make. "To town." She smiled, trying to shake the matter.

"Intriguing, I'll be on the lookout for some. My I'll have to sneak into the kitchen to see if I'm lucky enough to find some." Dimitri said with speculation. He wiggled his eyebrows with playful emphasis.
"While you're in there, see if you can convince the cook to try his hand at Crème Brûlée," Alexis suggested.

Haley smiled back, kindly, she hoped. She was eager to see what this town held, but at the same time, she was terrified. Their life was about to change. Not that it didn't when they escaped 24 hours ago, but this could be a real change. If they were able to find help, then they could, maybe, have a new life. A new start. She pushed away the thought, trying to not become too optimistic about the situation. There were several other factors that would need to be cleared first anyway. Aneurin was somewhere, possibly taken back to the labs already where dozens of other unwilling people were being subjected to whatever Ryker felt like applying to them that day, and he and them needed to be rescued. She glanced over at Amaryllis and wondered what her thoughts were on their situation.
