And this one here has a chicken named after her.

Who? Me? What chicken? I vaguely remember you mentioning something about that.

Hmm. Odd indeed. Who knows, maybe when she lays, she may pass the blue wheaten color to her offspring since she HAS to carry that gene now.

I have 14 eggs waiting and Warden sent me 8 Icelandics!!!!!!!

Hopefully since they like to hatch early they will be right on time.

Guess what I forgot to do?

Calibrate! Remembered at 1:00 today, so who knows. I might be up all night. Even with having to drive 5 cities away for a dental appointment.

The Polish were worse than I thought. One was just squatting in a corner last night and although she looked like she didn't feel well I really thought they would both be alright. She didn't make it through the night. I've checked on the other often and she isn't like the other was, but I know she's sick. Been giving meds and medicated water. I hope she turns around. They are BCW with mottled chests. Just thought they were cool looking, but if I had checked them out I wouldn't have taken them.

Need to sex these little cochins. I'm going to probably keep one and sell the other two later on. Was thinking since I can't get a silkie to go broody, maybe a cochin. I got a black, a white and a buff.

I like my new roo. I don't know what colors Games are, but he's a cool looking bird. I don't think I'll keep him very long though. I mainly got him to breed to my hens and see what colors I get. After a couple of future hatches, I'll change him out for another color. My last Game roo, Romeo was awesome. He was so sweet and my garnd daughter could walk up and pick him up and carry him around like a baby. He died fighting off a hawk. His favorite hen (and mine) Juliet moaned and laid where I found him and whined for almost 2 weeks. Just didn't bother to replace him till now.

Soooooo........hopefully by Easter I can hatch out of my own birds. What a concept!

Now if I can ever get hold of this quail guy maybe I can actually make some money instead of spending it. Oh another concept! The man trying to put us into contact thinks he'll help me. He wanted this man to start raising them, but he even stopped raising chickens. Said he got 70,000 eggs a day? week? geez I forget. But, he bought 15 acres, 5 of grapes, 5 of almonds. His wife said he was done with chickens. LOL Thing is he paid his bills from his job and the chickens were his extra income and he bought his property with his extra income money. Man I need just part of these guys' brains.

Even though people are setting at different times I think 12 noon is a point time for most. I loved how the NYD hatch was put together and how it built up as it went. I can't wait till next year, cause I'm going to hatch lots of chicks!

I'm not really knowledgeable enought to set things up the way they did for NYD. I just started the thread so we all had a place to start, so hopefully some smart people can move this along. LOL

So anyone have good ideas for some contests or anything????? I was thinking maybe the funniest looking chick. Or different looking. Don't want it to get hurt feelings.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to come in and post much, but had a huge weekend with my oldest grand daughter's 18th BDay party. We ran around for days. Then for people who know what I'm talking about and can read between the lines, tomorrow is the 6 month mark and I'm a little out of it. Plus thursday my oldest daughter (mother of the 18 year old) is having surgery and she's going to need me often to take care of the youngest grandbaby while kids are in school. 2010 he SIL had 6 surgeries starting Dec 26th and he needs 2 more. DD hasn't had to have one since 09, now here we go again, so she's off work for 6 weeks and can't lift anything.

OK, so there's my rambling novel.

I've decided what I want to run for the third week contest: Best Picture of a Broody Mom with Chicks/Ducklings. Doesn't have to be on the nest with 'em, could be out and about in the yard or whatever. How's that sound?

Open to any BYCer. But I thought it was a hoot, considering we're involved in an incubator thread. Heheheheheheheehe.

I am still trying to decide what I will offer for the prize. I have some stuff up my sleeve, can't quite decide which sleeve or which "stuff."

Oh I like that!

Since I haven't seen an egg in months from my girls and some haven't even started laying yet, I can't offer eggs, but I would.

How much do the prizes have to be worth? I doubt I have anything worth much. LOL

Maybe I need to get out of the house to look around. Then again I hate going out and been running and hsve to be running. Let me think.......

edited because I don't do that!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wolfie, you don't have to offer anything. I think we'll be able to take care of any contests. There can be BYC calendars, for one, which aren't expensive. We've already got some offers of certificates for eggs, just have to nail those down, and for what...

Don't stress Wolfie, I was thinking of offering something for the NYD hatch but that got crazy and I wasn't actually hatching. lol

I'm sure Linda's right, this one is really starting to get rolling.
