Chinese Painted (Button) Quail..........Share Your Pictures!!!!

I wouldn't keep 2 pairs in the same aviary, unless it's downright huge - and even then I'd be very careful doing it. One roo is very likely to bully the other and it will stress everyone - and stress is not good for breeding.
A picture of the aviary would help, but in general - make sure they have some dark corners. Mine usually make their nest behind spruce branches I place in the corners. They'll probably like hay or shavings as nesting material in these corners. And they need around 14 hours of daylight - sometimes a little less might be enough - to lay, if you don't have that you'll likely have to wait till you do.

Other than that, make sure you feed them correctly ~24% protein and give them crushed oyster shell or similar in a separate bowl for calcium.

I have 6 pairs of buttons and a pair of harliquins in a 4.5ft by 1ft pen and they all get along fine and lay well. I feed all of mine chick crumbs (i feed them turkey crumbs when i can but it is out of season at the moment).

You do know that buttons and harlequins will cross breed right?Harlequins were on the endangered species list not to long ago and it would really suck to see them go back on that list.A handful of people saved these birds from extinction and I think they deserve to see these birds thrive for the years to come in pure form. Please separate them and keep them pure. They may not come back from extinction again if they disappear again.

I did not know they could cross breed. Thankyou for telling me. I will move them out a bit before they start breeding and make sure they dont.

I know this is an old topic, but I have new baby quails hatching. ^^ Right now only one has hatched, but there's a pipped egg in the incubator as well as other eggs that may hatch.

This is Little Bee, the firstborn King Quail chick, resting on my Silkie chick, Little Peep-Peep, who is also a firstborn.

I don't keep them together due to the dangers of the big chicken chicks harming the little quail baby, but it hasn't got a cuddle buddy yet, so I let Peep-Peep and Bee have supervised cuddle time every now and then.
