CHIPS.... my baby what is wrong???? Help Please!!!!!!

Miss Lydia...

I do so hope that Chips will be a female - well, my agenda tomorrow is to wrap Chips up - that will be challenging! I understand that I should leave the bandage on for 7 days - do I need to keep Chips isolated from the others? Chips has only recently joined the main flock of ducks and I would prefer to leave her? with them if possible....

Thanks

Suzie

Since i've never had to deal with angel wing I would wrap and put her with them and see how they react. course Chips will be reacting to being bandaged too. I am guessing girl just based on it's face looks girlie to me, is is making any sounds to give you any idea?

Update on Chips.....

Miss Lydia.....
You are magic! I now think that Chips is a female - it makes a soft trilling noise - wonderful as I want girls

What you all omitted to tell me was just how difficult it would be to wrap the wing - it is easy to catch and hold Chips as it loves attention... however, after wrapping the wing ( securely - I think NOT ) Chips was off across the field showing off it's new attire.... it must have lasted the best part of one minute before the wrap was flung aside much to the amusement of all at the cabaret act of Chips! Now I will explain ( in my defence ) that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my right hand is not as efficient as it used to be - so maybe that was why the first attempt failed...... OK - stage two - my inferior half ( Phil ) admonished me and he proceeded to re-wrap the offending wing in his perfect manner - ha! Well that did not last as long as my disabled effort!!!!

Final stage - well for today at least - micropore tape..... Chips was wrapped in micropore tape around the body twice, leaving the right wing free to move - it is holding the left one rigid so far and Chips is looking confident and happy - for now!

Any further suggestions of how to keep the wing secured would be gratefully received by Chips

Yippee for Chips being female, and I sure wish we'd caught all of this on video.

So.... The ongoing problem of Chips,

The micropore gave up the ghost yesterday - it was raining heavily and Chips was happy to see that the micropore tape was easily removed when wet.... so the ultra sticky tape was applied, Chips was looking defeated this evening as this was still an obstacle to overcome, Chips may have outside help with the removal of the wrap and tape - the audience are now partaking of aiding Chips in the removal of the wrap and sticky tape - methinks that Chips will be isolated for seven days to help HER recover - she will not be happy to be alone BUT this may be our only hope to help her.

I have been wracking my brain to see if there are any other solutions..... I have thought of stretch stockings to put over the wrap and tape - as she is female I am sure she will be happy with the stocking(s) solution - I draw the line at suspender belts! Anyone with further suggestions.... I am deadly serious about getting Chips wing back in place where it belongs despite the light hearted talk - I do not think that a stretch sock will be large enough as Chips is now quite big..

Thanks for suggestions - I am sure that some of you have had great problems in taping/wrapping the wing into it's correct position.

Thank you for the solution! I had never heard of buffs.... so I looked it up on the internet ( well here in France we do not have buffs ... yet....) I have something very much like a buff - it is a polar motorcycle neck warmer and would be ideal for Chips... I just have to find it now and I will also order some buffs from the USA - I must say that CelticOaksFarm solution of medical sticky tape is still effective for keeping the wrap in place so far but I will find the neck warmer to add to the healing solution of Chips!

To all here on whatever forum...... I trust you, your families and animals are all safe from the awful weather conditions you are facing!
