aw crud! Hate when that happens! Silkieds are just so darn delicate yet. Can't stress how badly we need to get fresh outcross in. I know everybody wants to rush to the finish line with full silkied birds but have to take the long term view. Guess this answers my question as to what varieties of silkieds you were looking for...
Eden you have to create a hybrid vigor. An out cross with a reg AM and use a split to breed back to split or SiAM. Then breed back SiAM offspring back to reg to start the process over for a least one more generation. In my opinion.

No, this needs to be done repeatedly. I won't do silkied to silkied breeding at this point with CC's line. Silkied to total outcross or split, or outcrossed split to outcrossed split. For each SiAm variety I also have or will have straight birds - as well as top quality Gold Based Blacks. The only straight hard feather variety I don't have at this point is the Chocs and I'm waiting for those from Jean. Those will be worked and threaded back and forth with the best GB Blacks from different lines as well as crossing the tracks one-way to the choc/mauve Siam pens.

First chick hatched from splash mauve split to silkied cockerel and mauve hen silkied split out of the mauve SiAm pen. Compare mauve to blue chick. Full sibling also hatched, a mauve splash. Now silkied too would be nice! Waiting to see when they start feathering out. Be doing the happy dance if so!
Edencamp would you be selling any of the mauve chicks you don't want to use in your project? I'd like to add the mauve color in my flock we just started because it's a beautiful color!

I'm selling breeding pen of silkied splits that is producing mauve/mauve splash.  At this point I'm building my breeding pens with only choc/mauve silkied splits and or silkied..

Would you be interested in selling some eggs from them?? I am not skilled enough in chicken raising to take on breeding haha we just started this spring! Looking forward to having eggs though

and having lots of pretty birds running around!

Oh ok. No, I'm sorry, I think I misunderstood your reply. I thought you were selling the adults that were breeding the mauve colored chicks, so before you did I was asking for eggs. But I got it wrong. Well good wishes for your continued success on your project! :) I'll keep searching for my pretty mauve colored bird! :)
