I think I have 8 or 9!

She was off the nest and I caught a glimpse of yellow fuzziness EVERYWHERE!

One is darker colored and more rouen looking, so I assume that is my mixed baby (half runner half wh).

Chrissy rounded them all up and took them back in the igloo though so I couldn't verify the number. Stupid duck.

Does she bite you if you put your hand near her?
I have a Bantam Cochin that is the silliest and friendly chicken I have ever met.
Constantly jumping on you for a stroke and a snooze.

However...when she's made a nest to lay an egg this lovely ball of fluff turns into a killing machine and woe betide anyone, or anything, that goes near her.

Does she let you go near "her" babies?

She gets all bent out of shape if I get too close. I haven't pushed the issue. We have a final count....

How exciting! Love the first picture. -- hope she let's you get more soon! I've been through this a couple of times and my recent experience was the first Momma duck to seem less stressed and more tolerant of my peeks. Guess I've been posting pics on our "where am I where are you thread", but just in case I hadn't shared them - here are my four new runner babies. It will be soooo much fun for you to have ten!

That is so cool!!! I have a runner that has gone broody... she has been on the eggs 4 or 5 days. I hope she stays with it. the other ducks are out enjoying the sunshine for the first time. I have enough snow off my yard so they can play. She stayed in on her eggs..... I can't wait..... Hope you get to see them soon. That picture is just the coolest!!!

Wifezilla I'm so tickled for you!!!! I was wondering the last couple days how it was going but couldn't find where you had posted update..
Daisy quit laying a couple weeks ago in the spot in brush pile and is back to laying in the night house.. I took the 6 eggs a couple weeks ago.. when I noticed them back in night house.. I beleive she has 12 in the nest right now along with 5 wooden eggs.. She skipped Thursday and Friday didn lay an egg.. but layed one this moring in nest.. Do you think she might go broody pretty soon since she skipped two days???

It's possible. I thought Chrissy had stopped laying but it looks like she popped out a couple more than I thought before she set.

Final count....10 total. Mom is leading them out to eat and drink and then tucking them all under her to keep them warm. I have seen her "discipline" a few of them by biting them on the butt when they get out of line!

While she had them out of the igloo I checked the nest and she had 4 more eggs in there. Hubby said she stole some a few days ago so those went in the trash.

Still not sure how she got a hold of 10 eggs. She must have laid a few after she went broody.
