Christian Topic: Bible Translations - which do you like?

KJV 1611 and only the KJV, for the reasons stated in this article. http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/kjvdefns.htm

I
dont want a paraphrase because I can read the words for myself without some other person telling me what they think it means. I want a translation. I dont want one that removes hundreds of verses that point to the deity of Jesus Christ and hundreds of words and punctuations, which completely change the meanings of a verse. So that takes out all of the modern day versions. I dont want a version translated from manuscripts that the KJ translators tossed out as uninspired or from questionable sources, which is the case with every modern day version. The article will explain that.
Good job keeping on track, guys. Timmo, I suggest you dont read this thread anymore because it obviously causes you pain to do so.

I accepted a free gift of God and I know where I will go when I pass.There are a lot of people who think you have to be a certain religion to be "Born Again" and it is not true. You just have to believe that Jesus died of our sin.If I never go to church again I will still go to Heaven. (Romans 10:9)

AMEN!

Timmo,

I am not just an animal. This song that my children sing sums it up.

I am a child of God,
And he has sent me here.
Has given me an earthly home
With parents kind and dear.
(Chorus)
Lead me, guide me, walk beside me,
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do,
To live with Him someday.

I am a child of God,
And so my needs are great;
Help me to understand His words
Before it grows too late.
(Chorus)

I am a child of God,
Rich blessings are in store;
If I but learn to do his will
I'll live with Him once more.
(Chorus)

I am a child of God.
His promises are sure;
Celestial glory shall be mine
If I can but endure.
(Chorus)

KJV~I have a hard time understanding some of the passages so I bought a Bible Dictionary based on KJV and man I love it. I can just sit and read the dictinary and learn so very much. I teach teenagers and they were having a hard time understanding and I was having a hard time explaining so I started using The Message//Remix along with the KJV. I bought The Message//Remix New Testament cause it was $5 and the lady told me she used it for study with her KJV just to help her understand better and thats what I wanted also. I didn't start using the Remix till after I listened to several sermon's by my Pastor and what he said and what the Remix said were on the same level. I also didn't start using it till I prayed and asked God for guidance. My teenagers are more into Sunday School, learning, and reading the Bible more than ever now. Hope I didn't ramble too much...I just love the Lord!

I like all versions really, it kinda depends on the mood I'm in (aren't I weird). However I usually read KJV because that's the one I own, but I need to study NIV for Bible Quizzing.

I always say it depends what Jesus means by "born again" not what people say. So if He says believing in Him as Savior from our sins and following Him is being "born again" then I'd have to say there are a lot of people out there who are born again whether they call themselves it or not. Thank the Lord, its our position not our title.

Actually, science is a very useful tool to us Christians. Scientists, (yes, even secular ones) are finally coming to "discover" what Christians have known for hundreds of years. "What!? You mean the Grand Canyon may have been caused by a world wide flood!? Now whoda thunk it?"

Back to my original point. Science is finally catching up to us! If you consider your faith to be real, you will need something real to back it up with, and that is how science ties into religion.

Take this for example. Scientist have done tests on evolution and on whether or not it is possible. What they have discovered is that if you take, say, a chimps DNA, and alter it in such a way that it is more aligned with human DNA, you will get one of two results.

Result A: a horribly deformed chimp incapable of reproducing

or

Result B: a dead chimp

Our DNA simply makes evolution impossible, and SCIENCE has proved that for us.

That is just one of many examples, but I think you get my point, so it's off the soapbox I go.

To put this post more on topic: I completely agree with Cyn. The KJV is the ONLY version that has been translated word for word from the original Greek. That and it uses neat words, like "contrariwise"
