First off, let me say it is an absolutely gorgeous piece of furniture...then, secondly, I can tell you how things like that
can end up at the curb... If an idiot (me) trusts her idiot FIL to repair it, and doesn't ask about it repeatedly.
I had an heirloom set that my great grandmother got on her wedding day in 1901. My uncle had it stripped
then decided he didn't want it, so I got it. Had it for a while, and my FIL's new retirement hobby was refinishing furniture. So, I let him take my triple dresser and standing chest of drawers to refinish. Months later, I am at his house and see his tv on the chest of drawers (that had the original knobs removed and the decorative wood on the front doors removed) I asked what happened, and he said he couldn't refinish it, so he had it done. They basically stripped it of everything of value, gave it a cheap stain, and charged him an arm and a leg. I looked around and didn't notice the triple dresser...my favorite piece..."Oh, I put it out by the curb because it was taking up too much space."
HELLOOOOO....I would have gladly driven the 500 mile roundtrip to pick it up so I would still have it!!!
Needless to say he was a little shocked when I took his tv, put it on his bed and carried the chest of drawers downstairs and loaded it BY MYSELF.
So, that's one possible explanation as to how nice pieces end up at the curb. I really hope someone picked my dresser up and it didn't go to the dump. If anyone in Little Rock is reading this and has the dresser...I still have all the mirrors and trim! LOL!
Great find!
I pick things up by the curb all the time. DH is mortified, but oh well! LOL!
