The candy cane ones sound good too. I went to the store when I was in town for feed, and I got more orange extract, some peppermint extract and some raspberry extract (gonna try the raspberry in some chocolate, see how that tastes.) got more almond bark, more cranberries, more nuts... I think I am ready (with what I already had) to do the candy making this year.

and just to be "halloweeny" I grabbed a couple of fresh pomegranites - gonna make salad with dinner and throw some of those into it. I wonder if I can dehydrate the pomegranite seeds and put those into chocolate... hhhmmmmmm......

I have 3.Yes 3.I sew mostly horse embroidered stuff from our website and our ebay store. SO (sew) I do that and I am a school crossing guard.45 minutes in the a.m. and the p,m. It is a great part time job that allows me to sew and still be home for my kids. i really enjoy the different parts of my life.

I generally do a few embroidered gifts every year. But after you have done the towels and the blanket and the sweatshirt/polo, you start running out of ideas. I would welcome any you would have for a lady who loves to cook and a guy who at 70 has EVERYTHING!

I am looking at getting an embroidering machine. I am looking for one under $700 or lower. Does anyone have any comments on ones that are good?

I have read that there are several of you with them. I would love any help.

Thanks

Oh I can help you with that.I have been embroidering for about 7 years now.I started with a bottom of the line home quality Brother I bought on EBay. It was like $300 ,7 years ago.BUT you have to put a card IN the machine to get the design. White is MADE by brother and I beleive they sell them in some Joann's. Those also generally have to have a card that has designs (between 10-20) loaded on to it.

So after having both of those my dh (who does the business with me) wanted to move to something that went from computer to machine. So we got a Janome. THAT was a LARGE step up as it was almost 1200.00. But you load designs FROM your computer onto a card that then goes into the machine. So then possibilities were endless!

From there you move up to home/semi commercial. They will be in the thousands.

The Janome makes a embroidery only machine for about 1200.00. IF they seduce you into the embroidery/quilting/sewing machine that is about 5,0000.00.I have zero interest in anything but embroidery 9though I do have a sewing machine and a serger) so I was NOT seduced.

You can start with a Brother like I did if the 1200.00 scares you.It did me.I wanted to be SURE I would not hate it in a year. 7 years in and I don't.The Jenome embroidery only has a 1 yr unlimited warrenty and a 10 yr on motor and something else. Whatever I needed worked on they did reasonably. But I get ALL my machines cleaned and oiled 3-4 times a year.

Hope that helps.Feel free to PM me with any questions if I am hijacking the thread!

I had the Brother Machine, at first, I liked it but didn't like it. You only had the small 4x4 embroidery area and the cards that you had to buy was around a $100 and up (according to the designs you wanted). The machine came with the USB cord but you have to buy the software that will cost you around another $100 bucks (according to where you buy if at).

I was on the phone with a BYCer and she was telling me of a special on HSN about an Embroidery Machine that is also a sewing and Serge machine (which is fine even though I already have two sewing and one Serge machine). I ended up getting the machine and it is the Singer All-In-One SES1000 and it usually runs almost $2000 but HSN had a special for $799.

It came with all the software you needed to get started. It also came with Hyper-font CD to where you can use any fonts that are on your computer. It came with the Cross-stitch software that allows you to embroider a design in cross-stitch. It also came with software so that you can upload any pic you have on your computer and with the right thread you can embroider that also.

You can also download designs from the Internet since it came with that software also.....and the possibilities are endless. YOu can also buy CD with the XXX designs and upload them to your computer, or if you know someone who has the CD's you could borrow and upload from there. I like the machine because you have 2 different size hoops and the machine is very stable while running, meaning not dancing around. Sure hope you find one to fit your needs and budget, But make sure of all that is included because the Brother may end up costing you more in the long run with the purchases of all the cards that you'd probably like to have.

ETA: That the Singer SES1000 has a 4x4 hoop and a 5x7 hoop. Sure wish mine a a 6x9 but maybe I can get one ordered

Yea that is true about the brother AND the white I had forgotten that. The Janome has 4"*4 and a 6*9 and then the happy has 3 different sizes. But the cards fir the brother/white seem to have come down A LOT!

Sebrightmom.....Well I guess what we both here are saying is that you can hint around that a nice embroidery machine would be a nice Christmas gift.
