Christmas discussion!

I am joining because I am a grinch this year, but I don't want to be, so I hope this thread brings me some Christmas cheer. I did not even put up my tree this year, but I suppose it's not too late! My family is far away so I don't get to see them and my husband was not raised celebrating Christmas so it's hard to get in the spirit when I feel alone.

Let's see. I love baking Christmas cookies, I like traditional Christmas music as well as punk rock Christmas music. I once played Mary in the church Christmas pageant many years ago. My birthday is Christmas day. I live in a ski resort town that makes it look and feel like Christmas all winter with lots of snow and twinkling lights everywhere. My personal celebration is to snowboard Christmas morning and spend the rest of the day at home. I also like buying and sending Christmas gifts.

What are your favorite Christmas traditions or activities? How do you celebrate? Who do you celebrate with? Also what is your favorite kind of cookie?

Does your family always come to your house or do you go different places every year? Growing up, the extended family always came to our house for years and years and years, but things have changed and it doesn't go that way anymore. I miss the big family lunch/dinner/all day food fest! What's your favorite food on Christmas? My Italian grandmother used to make baked ziti, my Polish grandfather used to always bring kielbasa.

Well when it’s my mums side I have to go to my grandparents house and then my dads side come to our house

I'm crazy about Christmas too!

My favorite Christmas Carol -- although I love them all, even the religious ones despite being atheist -- is Bring a Torch Jeannette Isabella, a French carol. Love the Carol of the Bells and I know the Canon in D isn't really Christmas music but Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions that's developed since we've had a grandson is preparing a Lego Winter Village every year. My grandson has been playing in it since he was about 3 and there were only about 3 buildings in it. It was the thing he wanted this year even before the tree came out.

It takes up the whole peninsula between the kitchen and family room and really cuts down on my working space but we still love to see it grow every year. For the future we'll be concentrating on adding elevations to the terrain and adding more landscaping. And as my grandson, now 8, gets older he's much more involved in the building. Hooray!

MERRY EVERYTHING, EVERYBODY!!!!

I love your lego village! Do you keep the buildings year over year or start from scratch each year? Each year we try and visit the chocolate village near us. The chef comes up with something incredible and new each year and they keep it on display about a month. I haven't been this year so I grabbed a few internet photos of it.

Howdy pirate! It can be hard to get in the spirit when family and friends are far away. I am a long way from my family as well, but I decorate, have a tree, lights on the porch and I even put "Christmas in the bathroom" this year! A cousin I have here said "why do all that? No one will see it?" "I see it" I said, "and I do it for me!" My favorite cookie is the Kiss Cookie. It's a chocolate Hershey kiss buried in shortbread and rolled in powdered sugar. You don't know the kiss is in there until you bite it! We have a few special tv channels with different type of Christmas music and I like the "traditional" and the "instrumental" music. I have to say that Christmas Day is not the ideal birthday, but Happy Birthday! My nephew's birthday is Christmas Eve and he struggles with that at times. I like to bake cupcakes more than cookies. Especially pumpkin! My husband's brother comes for a few days before Christmas along with my son and after Christmas Day my husbands son and his family (our grand kids) come up. So I'm entertaining, cooking and having Christmas for over a week at a time. I love it! This year my husband cut out some wooden moose and I painted them and they sit out like guardians, so cute. All this to say, you only live so long, enjoy everyday you have! Celebrate! Every year is a victory! Merry Christmas!

Yes! It doesn't matter who will see the decorations, we enjoy the time we spend decorating and we see them every time we are around the house! Your pumpkin cupcakes sound amazing. Maybe we should start a new thread as a holiday sweets recipe exchange... hmm...
