Christmas Hatch

Good luck!  I can't wait for pics!

They will do something eventually.  Some chicks are slower than others.  I placed mine in lockdown and it the very next day they were hatching.  I'm not sure what I did wrong.  They showed up two or three days early.  Lol

My newest serama family.

I have chicks due in 7 hours. I went to check on it a bit ago and the temp was 95.5 on the crappy LG. I raised it a bit and have to go down to make sure it didn't shoot up too high.
I've heard a faint peep or two.
I have a lone month old cockerel that needs friends.
I'll be setting early on the 4th for my zodiac HAL.
So an update. 6 hatched but one was protracted and didn't survive but the other 5 are being raised by the cockerel that is about 6 inches taller than they are and he bites me if I try to pick up one of them.
Living so long alone, he didn't know what to think of his little charges at first but I'm sure he loves the company.

Lockdown for my Xmas chicks today. Hope they do good!
Good luck to you.

On another note, I had 34 eggs (with 3 hatch dates) in the temporary incubator (a LG) and I think it destroyed the eggs. 2 were due to hatch yesterday, 25 due Christmas and 7 on NYD.
However, yesterday I went to look at it and I didn't have my glasses with me but I thought the thermometer said 107 point something but I was hoping it was 102. I opened it up till the temp dropped below 90 and put the lid back on. Went to get my glasses and when I returned, the temperature was back at 107.3.

For anyone considering a little giant, my best advice is to take that money, fire up the grill and burn it.

A hen just went broody yesterday - on the shortest day of the year.

They are adorable!!!! Such tiny little fluff butts!
I brought the hen and chicks to school today for the children to see. The hen, Pearl, is very tame and doesn't mind the chicks being handled as long as the chicks don't cheep in alarm and fear; then she gets angry in a hurry.

Both hens hatched all the eggs that they had-all nine-and they are cute and healthy. Three are from my avatar hen-hope they look like her when grown.

From what I was told early the temp was to high. I run the built in digital and another one .

also found out something new with the LG incubator lol, placed the probe as far away from the middle as I could and put the extra one next to the eggs under the heater and that fixed my issue with cool spots on the edges and on the 2 rows farthest from the heater/fan. Maybe next spring I can actually do a full incubator if hens don't go broody lol.

As for the Little Giant. I run no less than two other thermometer/hygrometers in it other than the digital sensor. I've ran my LG's both at 105.5-106.3 for the past 7 days to get the temps up to 101.5. I keep them both covered to help hold heat too.

it' been my headache that's why this hatch is small, This hatch should have started yesterday and still not one pip yet, but at least didn't get major temp spikes this time sometimes it would dip a little low but no spikes to 106 by the other 2 like when the egg turner was going the other hatches.
