Hi Everyone,
I have two Blue Ameraucana hens. They are 2 1/2 years old, are beautiful and have wonderful personalities. The one drawback is that they are prone to broodiness. Sadie goes broody every other month and the older that she has gotten, the longer it takes to break her-normally 5 to 7 days. Is this normal? Will it lessen as she gets older? I actually tried riding it out to see if she would snap out of it after 21 days, but no luck.

Also, should I be routinely worming my hens? What is the safest product out there for that?

Thanks for the advice!

Some breeds haven't had the urge to go broody bred out of them. It comes with keeping breeds that aren't just egg producers. Many will stop after 3-4 years, but than they also stop laying by than generally.

I never worm my birds, I'm not sure why so many people do unless you have a problem.

How are you breaking her?
After letting her set, it may take even longer.

Worming is a highly variable practice, needs for it vary with location and site.
There's really no pat answers tho some will give them.
I don't regularly worm but I live in the north where most everything dies in winter,
folks who live in the south can have much different circumstances.
