Cicadas

Wow, I was just out there picking up cicadas and was hand feeding my BR pullets. They can't get enough! My EEpair are picking up the scraps. I told my kids to bag up as many as they can so I can freeze them. Free food from Heaven. Oh yeah, Here in middle Tennessee we have millions of these noisy bugs.

I'm not seeing any at my property in SE Missouri yet, but at my mom's old place 25 miles west, there are a few. My chickens are pretty picky so far. They won't even eat red wigglers yet, but love roly-polys. They are still pretty young. I'm looking forward to major bug consumption at some point, tho!

Thats a GREAT Idea! - My Plymouth Barred Rock loves them. Do you freeze them alive? There are so many around here - its deafening when you go outside!

I am so completely jealous of all of you! I miss the cicada noises from childhood summers, but even though I read about the double-batch of 13 and 17 year cicadas, we've got nothing! Not a single cicada has been sighted on our property! Here in Arkansas, this is unheard-of.

It is a nice sound I remember too from childhood summers in NY... nice ...in moderation. Its actually deafening at my house. There is a background hum/whistle and then the rattling sound. Its so bad in my yard if someone is talking to they need to be standing not too far away so you can hear them!

I havent seen any yet but maybe the kids and i will tak e a walk today and see if we cant find some!!! We like to go walk in the woods, but now we'll be on a MISSION!! LOL
