Cinco De Mayo Chicks!

Well at 7:30PM I started day 20 I now have 8 hatched and 7 more pips. I keep looking into the incubator and am amazed to find another one hatched. 4 hatched after 7:30 so they were hatched on day 20 I hope the rest hatch. I just can't seem to stay away from the incubator lol I guess they will have to have spanish names. lol I have been tempted to open it up but I keep saying to myself not yet not yet. I thought I would have to hlep one little guy out he had his little butt stuck in half the egg. He was stuck in an upright position but he finally got out. I know I won't sleep tonight. Last time they hatched during the night and I missed most of it. Not this time. lol

Southern eggs and Bec congratulations I hope your daughter gets to see the miracle of the chick coming out. On my last hatch my grandchildren walked in just as a little polish was pipping amazingly it zipped right away and they got to watch it come out. Even my daughter was spell bound. She even has her husband promising to build her an incubator.lol

That is adorable!!!!

They're so cute with little baby boy and girl chicks with hair bows and bow ties popping out of their eggs.

Another school in town apparently set 50 eggs and only 1 hatched. So all us adults are really nervous right now. It doesn't help that these are eggs we really wanted. Add to that it's a 1st hatch for all of us and well...

Micki that's so great about all the chicks. I'm hoping to see that with the next batch. We'll have 41. Odds are a little better than the 5 we have now. Hoping to get two. Don't know how we will keep the one warm and happy by itself.

I can feel your excitment! BUT - GO TO BED!! A five month old and you are up watching EGGS???LOL!!

I DO understand; my first batch is due on the 15th, but at least I don't have any little rug rats running around all day long!

Keep us posted. SLEEP... SLEEP.... chicks have been hatching for a long, long time without our help!

Ok...going to bed...11:38pm.

I will check one more time and then go to bed. Goodnight all! Keep me posted on all the newbies.

Love'emSouthernEggs said: Ok...eggs must be like the old saying "A watched pot never boils." Oh my...I keep looking and checking and every sound I hear I think it could be...but it's not. I thought waiting for my own kids to come out was going to drive me crazy.

Anyone feeling my pain?

New Chick Mommy...

Well I lost my Cinco De Mayo baby sometime last night. When I went out this morning to check on her, she was in the middle of the floor, cold. It looks like her abdomen healed up, just somehow, she got out of the nest. I am not sure how though, the nest box has a 3 inch lip on it??

I had another pip this morning, so I will be watching all day!

Oh, BEC! I'm so sorry. What an awful way to start the day. Momma might have bumped it out. That's too bad.

I'm glad to hear that there's another one.

I didn't realize this was such a process. I took for granted - put eggs in incubator, eggs hatch. It is 8am and now I have two eggs that have 'stars' where the egg has been pushed up. Nothing actually broke through yet. Lots of rocking and rolling! Daughter is so excited. She already has it planned out when she comes home. She said she'd run to the incubator and if they weren't in there she would run to the brooder. LOL The pressure to not disappoint.

I am glad at the possibility of two. Husband said the two brown eggs we have were the ones peeping lastnight but one brown and a white are breaking through. Not sure what happened to the other brown.

So, here's the day...Check chicks...drink coffee...check chicks...chores...check chicks...run around after kids...check chicks...collect eggs...check chicks...

Lots more coffee. LOL

BantyGirl13 - Glad to hear I'm not the only one freaking out! Know you are not alone in this crazy chicken world. Gotta love it!

Let me know how it goes!

for the rest of the hatch.

I guess one benefit of them hatching at school is I don't have the option of staring at them all day. I'd never get anything done.

I get about 15min to stare at them in the afternoon. Then the principal starts looking at me funny and I've got to leave.

That's what I need to do...leave the house for awhile so I can't sit and stew. LOL

9:00am - Chick check. We are making progress! Correction! They are making progress. Like I'm doing anything but worrying.

Cracks are bigger and longer on both eggs. No new cracks on any of the other three. Still a lot of rocking and rolling!

Hoping to see chicks...some part of a chick in an hour. I know they said this take about 8-10 hours but when does that start?
