City rooster kept inside-good or bad plan?

One of these days, I will move back to the country--I have been wanting guineas for a long time! I am doing my best to have the country life in town, but I dream of the fresh air and wide open spaces! No one to tell me I can't have a rooster or a cow...

We had a lady in a neighborhood to the south of us who knew the neighbors didn't mind the crowing during the day.... Most of them were at work. So every evening about 7 or 8 PM she would go out, get the roo, put him in a dark cardboard box and bring him in the house. He stayed quiet. Then at 7 or 8 AM out to the girls he would go, before she would head to work.

My 5 guineas roost in the chicken coop and that keeps them somewhat quiet at night. But they are loud at times during the day, and I yell at them plenty (unheeded) to be quiet.

However, we put out a mirror for them a few days ago, and they are absolutely entranced! They'll be across the yard and suddenly run like mad single file toward the mirror only to line up in front of it and stare stare stare... they LOVE the way they look!!
One of the funny things about guineas. They certainly are goofy birds.

My Polish roo has been quite loud lately and sad to say, he has to go. I don't want to take the chance on someone reporting us and then losing my hens.

That's a shame, but you are right- assuming there's no workable solution. Since I'm a bachelor I have more options than most, but dunno if I'll be able to swing this or not. How old is your roo? I take it he is just now getting loud?
