City Schools vs Country Schools

Somebody mentioned no school in Michicgan on the first day of rifle season. That reminded me. Kids in northern Maine get a whole week off during harvest times so they can help harvest the potatoes.

My senior year of high school I attended a total of 4 days of school in the month of April. All of my missed school was excused because I was either at FFA functions or exhibiting livestock. You know it’s a small school when they will give you almost 2 weeks off to prep for and attend the Grand National Stock Sow.

Also “shipping fever” was a common ailment and was completely acceptable as an excuse.

i'm from a very rural area in alabama. the shop teacher told us if asked why we brought a knife to school, to tell the person it was for shop and he told us to bring it. any male student was subject to be asked for his knife by teachers and if they didn't have one they got a funny look. shop teacher looked while we drank beer and smoked in shop. just as long as he could grab one out of the cooler on the back of someone's truck. education level there sucks though. rest of the time i was in "base" schools. lot better than the school i grad from.
