City, Suburb, or country?

I grew up in the burbs, then moved to the city at 17. That lasted all of about a year, when I moved back to the suburbs for the next 10+ years. Then, last year, I bought my first country house, a little rancher on 2 acres. I make my home with my gf, 1 dog, 4 cats, 7 chickens, and countless woodland critters.

I was born to live in the country! I love it. While I am pleased as punch with this place, living here has made me want more. More land, more trees, more critters, more solitude.

I live in a country area very close to busy developed suburbs, and less than an hour outside Baltimore. It's nice because it isn't impossibly remote, but now I am starting to envy people who have to drive for days to get somewhere. I need my own ranch.

I am one mile from the city of Houston. I live on 5 very small acres. There are no pieces of property here in my circle that are under 5 acres. Some are larger. We are unique here in that in every direction from me is city. We just got ourselves a little pocket here that is one way in and one way out. My neighborhood has horses, goats, cows, goats, chickens, goats, barns, goats, lots of fishing ponds (one of them belongs to me) and there seem to be an increasing number of goats now that some people are moving and the Hispanic population is growing in the area. I guess they like goats.

Been thinking of moving further out into the country myself. The city is starting to get closer it seems. My neigborhood is starting to decline, people are speeding through now, I am having to pick up trash out of my ditch now two or three times a week now, the new folks are starting to drag old cars and construction debris and just let it sit on their property now. There are two houses here on this property, a warehouse that a tractor trailer could pull into, a nice fishing pond and both properties are fenced. If I could get $250,000 for them I would move to an area like Dayton, Texas, or Huntsville, Texas, or something like that. I would.

small rural town, used to be mostly dairy farms. Now the dairy farms are closed, and being turned into cul-de-sacs, still mostly country though.

City/Suburb---I'm within city limits, don't live in a neighborhood and live on 3/4 of an acre near the interstate.

I have 12 chickens (w/a roo), a veggie garden, herb garden and I plan on expanding next year

That means more chickens and a larger garden...now I just have to talk my dh into it...

We're zoned rural, but I'd consider us suburbs. We have 6.43 acres which borders a 2 acre pond (small lake?) and a creek. We live next to 80 undeveloped acres, so it's quiet. We have a few neighbors who are pretty tolerant of the chickens and loved the eggs.

We're zoned agricultural-residential. I live on a street surrounded by fields to the north and south. All the houses on my street are on the north side of the road facing south; each house has anywhere from 1.5-3 acres. We have a little over 1.5 at our place. There is an all-sports lake at the end of our street; I'm not sure what the zoning is like there, but I'd guess R-2.

We have great views, but aren't isolated or really far away from a town. Our town is about ten minutes away. The suburbs of a major city in our state begin only about 20 minutes north of us.
